Admiral Terence Frisby looked out of his office viewport at the scintillating blue-white gem that was Earth. Nearly 650 years had passed since the terrible wave of destruction had raced out from the core of the galaxy and wiped out the previous stellar regime. He reflected on the changes in the last six centuries. Risen from barbarism to once again attempt to conquer the stars. The old FLOP had four or five extra-solar colonies at the time of the Wave, records from back then were unclear. Records also indicated some sort of alien race had been encountered. The only good thing from the Wave, he thought, would be the fact that the aliens would have been hit just as hard. No one knew how long the jump points had remained unstable. No ships had been available to transit them in a very long time.
The admiral called up the specs for the technology that the Confederation of Terra had available to it. So much knowledge lost in the aftermath of the Wave. He wished he had some expertise in scientific endeavors, but his talents lay in administration, something the fledgling Confederation would need.
With a sigh, the admiral turned from his technical briefing to his naval briefing. He called up the specifications of the ships available to him.
