How long do you guys carry on a game for. 100 years, 200 years, 300 years, more?

Also, how many active people are there who play this game?

And, this is game capable of multiplayer (according to the wiki the SM is a referee for multiplayer games)? How does that work?

How long?  It really depends.  Some are very short because I'm testing something, others have lasted 150+  years.

Not sure there is a track of active players.

Actually the game really doesn't support multiplayer.  There have been various methods where one person runs the game turns based on players posted orders with some success.

The multiplayer games I've been SM for are basically password protected multi-faction setups. The database is then exchanged by dropbox so each player can personally review the situation and update orders. Once or twice a week the SM (me) advance the game time by a year or some other increment. It plays out like a cross between a hot-seat computer game and a table-top RPG.

My first multiplayer game lasted 38 years. Our second is currently on year 24. Ironically, both are long-lived by my own standard. My personal games have a bad habit of dying within 25 years, if TransNewtonian start, before I come up with a shinny new idea or strategy I want to try. Currently I'm just running an arena death match against myself rather than playing out a traditional game.
