AAR: The Gamma Pavonis Campaign
« on: May 26, 2020, 01:26:17 PM »
Part I: First contact, first combat, first Human death in space.

In 2064 a geological survey craft received a message of unknown origin in the system of Gamma Pavonis while running a routine operation.

This is when the Sol Empire first became aware that they were not alone. 64 years of reforming what remained of Earth after the disastrous Y2K One World Government takeover attempt of 1999. 60 years after first discovering the unique trans-Newtonian properties of rare elements found deep in the Earth.

5 years of research and development went into coming up with methods to communicate and see the aliens. In these 5 years advancements in sensor technology allowed quick small scout craft to discover 3 populations of aliens in the system, 1 large and 2 very small, along with over half a million tons of various ships.

Within these 5 years a new military corps formed: The Space Marines. These genetically enhanced soldiers would be trained in space combat and be set to patrol every planet within the Sol Empire's grasp. They would be the first stepping stone into expanding out of Sol.

In 2068 communications first started and by 2069 translation was mostly complete and the message we were constantly receiving from the aliens was finally understood:

"Leave us, go and never come back. We will not follow"

Our best diplomat was pleading to let our two peoples talk and share but they would have none of it. Eventually the message came:

"Leave or be destroyed"

When Captain Asmodai Hephaestus heard the threat over the comms sent to the diplomatic ship, he knew he had to act fast. Immediately ordering his carrier stationed on the other side of a warp tunnel into the Pavonis system to assist the helpless diplomatic ship.

Maybe it was an empty threat, there was nothing on sensors. A day passed, then two, then 3, then they appeared.

Two frigates showed up on sensors coming straight towards the carrier group.

"Looks like they sent an escort to help us leave. Hail them and tell them that under Sol Empire decree #1078 Jump point's are free for all to use and decree #8 space is for all to use, and along with their previous threat and them rushing towards us we will take it as an attack and under Sol Decree #1 Any threats to Humans will be destroyed."

The reply was simple:

"Leave now through the jump point or be destroyed"

The Captain knew there was no backing down from this fight, the Sol Decrees would not allow him to. He ordered the crew to brace for combat and ordered the launch of 2 pairs of Space Marine Assualt Shuttles each carrying a standard self sufficient Space Marine Company within a boarding pod. The shuttle pairs each set to latch onto a frigate

"Ok Ok, we don't want to be destroyed, we were just waiting for our jump engines to cool off to bring this diplomatic ship back with us, we are going now"

The carrier group with the diplomatic ship warped out, however the battle had just began.

The heavy power armor of the Space Marines proved useful as the initial breaching combat led to no losses on the Human's side. The combat raged on with the superhuman Space Marines tanking through hits and killing countless aliens.

After 5 minutes of combat, the first ever Human death in space was recorded. On April 13, 2069 02:04 AM Corporal Dante Aulis fell in combat against the Xeno-scum. His name forever engraved in history as the first Space Marine to sacrifice himself for the Greater Human Good.

Eventually the aliens surrendered and the ships fell into the hands of the marines.

Looks like the threat was empty... for now.

Both ships had enough fuel to make the trip to Earth so the marines piloted them back home while the carrier and diplomatic ship stayed on the other side of the Pavonis jumpPoint in order to prevent any more scouts gaining information towards Sol.

PART II to come...

Part II: The Aliens strike back.

As the captured scouts were on their way back to Earth, there was a development on the GI side of the Gamma Pavonis jumpPoint.

18 Contacts of the Gamma Aliens of various sizes. None match up to the mighty 30 000 ton carriers of the Sol Empire, however they outnumber our 6 carriers 3:1.

The carriers and their fighters use old technology over 20 years old, such as ion drives. For two decades these carriers and their fighters have been the front line shield of the Sol Empire. The only modern technology in the fleet are the now 36 Space Marine assault shuttles and their Space Marines.

Immediately after jumping in the Aliens run from our carriers. 60 Fighters are launched to pursue and open fire:

The first two volleys of railgun fire (over 400 shots on target) cause the Alien fleet to start taking penetrating hits. The Alien admiral must have decided his best chance was to get out of range of the Human fighters so he ordered his fleet to split up, hoping some of their ships can escape pursuers and outrange us. Unfortunately for them, fighters can split-up too and actually excel at this sort of combat:

And shortly after first blood is landed:

The shockwave of the explosion of the alien ship must of reset the alien systems that were affected by jump shock as shortly after they returned fire. An enemy ship class, The Hidra had at least 4 size 6 lasers on it and fired upon our fighters, instantly destroying one.

The enemy fleet split up even more and more enemy ships started firing their weapons. More lasers, guass, missiles, erupted from Alien turrets and launchers. The Carriers jumped through towards the Pavonis system where they find no signs of the Alien. Safe they stay while more reports of fighters exploding and enemy ships being disabled.

The fighting claimed down with all the Alien ships left disabled with no weapons and no engines. The carriers jump back in to pick up damaged fighters and the lifepods.

Overall the Human fleet lost 5 fighters and had to repair numerous others which are still lacking armor.

Also as pictued above, an alien ship surrendered to the mighty Human fleet with no need of Space Marines.

The traitorous xeno crew also decided to tell us about some random system somewhere we have no idea where with 3 jump points and no system bodies. Good to know guys... Can't wait to put these Xeno's in a zoo on Earth.

Part III: A great loss for humanity, to come...
