Newbie Question #4 "Exploring another star system"
« on: January 07, 2016, 04:15:10 PM »
Hi all

I have just moved an old (non jump drive) GEO/GRAV survey ship through a Jump Gate and set it to do a Geological Survey of Planets/Moons.  Problem is that whilst it is moving from planet to planet it is not giving me any reports (success or failure) so doesn't seem to be doing anything.

How do i correct this and conduct a GEO survey in this new system?

Many thanks

Its doing its job fine. It will not give a report if it failed to find anything, so you are probably just unlucky to not find anything of use. Check the planets in the system-view (the button with the sun on it).
Give a man a fire and he's warm for a day, but set fire to him and he's warm for the rest of his life.

Just to add to above, the far left column of the system information window (F9) has a checkbox for survey states. Blank means no survey has been conducted by your empire, S means a survey has been conducted and nothing of value found, and M means a survey has been conducted and minerals of value were found.

thanks all - will check this out

why don't you get any message though - you do in your own start system - just seems odd

cheers

I have got around the problem by using the All-in-one install, though would be interested in how to fix it in the standard install.

thanks

PS - the game background is very annoying as i lose the task bar along the bottom of my screen - any way to get rid of it, its just not needed?
