Host transfer
« on: November 30, 2007, 10:32:42 AM »
The new host is up.

I've loaded phpBB and all the mods. But, as of yet, I cannot actually log into the board on the new host. Posts are current there as of 2pm GMT 11/30.

The move should be transparent to everyone. Same location to access, same usernames/password (I hope).

I'll send a notice out on the mail list once it goes up.

Erik -

What is going on with this?  There is an announcement on the top of the index page that anything posted after 12/10 might not be carried over.  Is that still valid, or have things changed?

The new host has initiated the transfer. I've approved it. Now it will take up to 5 days (The 15th). I've been taking backups regularly, so we don't lose any posts, or not many at least.

The host finally has the DNS change in. I've got a complete backup of the site as of 10am Central US time Monday 12/17. They say the next 12-24 hours and the change will be live.

Host move is complete, and as far as I can tell successful. If there is anyone having trouble logging in, use the forgot password link on the log in page.

Got a problem, both with the new password, as well as using the digest that is e-mailed out.

With the new password, the host was:
http://pentarch.org/aurora/

However, I got a "404" error message for this host, and it was only when I manually replaced the above host with:
http://aurora.pentarch.org/
that I was able to enable the new password.

I had to do a similar process to use the links in the digest that is mailed out (even the one that I recieved 4 hours ago.

I've had some issues like that myself. I think, and stress the think part, that it is cached addresses causing that. If you get a 404 going to pentarch.org/aurora, just change it to aurora.pentarch.org and leave rest of the url as is. That should update the cache...

I think that there is also a problem with the links on the pages. When I clicked on the orange icon (to go to the most recent unread acticles of the game review), I got a "404" error message, as the page tried to take me to the old URL.....

Try clearing your browser cache.

Hopefully this will all settle down in a couple days. Yahoo was most reluctant to let DNS entries go.

Nope looks like the problem lies in whatever is used to generate the digest links.

eg from the email

<td><a href="<td><a href="http://pentarch.org/aurora/viewtopic.php?p=7672#7672">7672</a></td><td>18 Dec 2007 10:11 AM  CST</td><td>Erik Luken</td><td>Host move is complete, and as far as I can tell successful. If there is anyone having trouble logging in, use the forgot password link on the log in p...</td>
</tr>

notice the href is still set to "http://pentarch.org/aurora/"

I suspect there is a setting misset somewhere :-(

I think I've got this fixed. Let me know if it pops up again.

And for some reason, long posts got truncated. They are there in the backup SQL, but didn't get imported...
