luxury freighter
« on: September 09, 2012, 02:53:18 PM »
I am tempted to design a freighter with luxury accomodations(or luxury liner with cargo holds?).

Have anyone tried that? will AI know how to use such a ship, or will there be some conflict?

Edit: Since noone answered  I decided to try:

Argentina class Superfreighter    79,600 tons     1648 Crew     2206 BP      TCS 1592  TH 3300  EM 0
2072 km/s     Armour 1-164     Shields 0-0     Sensors 1/1/0/0     Damage Control Rating 1     PPV 0
MSP 17    Max Repair 38 MSP
Cargo 25000    Passengers 2500    Cargo Handling Multiplier 10

Ion Engine E0.9 (22)    Power 150    Fuel Use 9%    Signature 150    Armour 0    Exp 1%
Fuel Capacity 50,000 Litres    Range 12.6 billion km   (70 days at full power)

This design is classed as a Commercial Vessel for maintenance purposes

I have also heavily subsidized the company to make sure it can afford this ship. Now shipping line has more then 10k credits.

I don't believe the AI will use it for multiple roles.    It will probably either buy it as a freighter or as a liner and use that particular ship for only that particular role.

my AI refused to buy these wonderful ships at all. I even tried to put some people on Mars (with this very ship) and changing it's hull name to "Luxury Liner" and "Freighter". To no avail.

Any ideas why would AI decide not to use them?

P.S. Unfortunately my civilization was overrun by swarm from the neighboring system :(

Did you subsidise them? I don't think they would be able to afford it by default (I don't remember if their starting cash is 1,500 or 2,500, I think it's one of the two).

Don't mean to hijack the thread but how do the subsidies work?  Is the shipping line wealth it's total credit amount or just how much it can spend on any one ship at a time?

It's the liquid capital available for a new ship, I do believe.
Come take a look at Victoria Regina, an old-timey AAR
