So, I will use this thread for my Ship, Fighter, Missile, and PDC designs.

This is my first attempt at a beam fighter, I haven't tested it yet, but I like it for now.

Seems nice to me, only a couple of oddities, the reactor for the lasers is oversized, it seems you need only 1.25 Power Output to feed it, but your reactor produces 12 PO. You can probably reduce the size of the reactor to save some tonnage for other things.

But now the really strange thing is, 1080BP!?  :o That's the cost of one of my missile frigates! It must take forever to build these fighters. On the other hand you do seem rather high-tech though so maybe it's not all that great a cost.

Top-tier stuff, heh. How did you get so high on tech tree? 200+ yrs of research? Ruins? SM?

Few things to note:
1. You could make laser slightly cheaper by using capacitor recharge rate 20 instead of 25.
2. And you could use 0.75x sized laser instead of 0.5x (they have the same size on caliber this small) and make do with 12 capacitor rate.
3. 36kkm/s seems too slow for... uh, it looks like plasma-core antimatter drive? Anyway, rather slow.
4. You can also reduce the size\cost of FC by cutting tracking speed, because who fields 100kkm/s fast ships anyway?  ::)

I'm not a fan of small fighters, I prefer heavy, but rather reliable 500t fighters.

How did I get so high tech?  By constantly destroying threats to my ability to process 30 days at a time and assimilating them. Ohh, and 500 research centers help.

i suggest designing a minimum size active sensor for the fighter.  Something that can pick up enemies in beam range is all you need.

i agree that you can probably save size by reducing the reactor size; i usually use multiple 0.1 size reactors for fighter designs.

i agree that it might be a bit slow, since there's only the one engine; but i don't know what speeds PCAM drives can achieve.  Point is, the weapon range is going to be short for the tech level, so you need a speed advantage to be useable in a beam engagement.

OK, Thanks for the advice on the fighter(It got eaten alive by an invader fleet, but also got their attention for my fleet to close to optimum missile range, but those poor redshirts I feel like star trek.)

I started a new game over the few days to get used to low tech again and I was designing a few missiles for basic engagements with random low tech NPRs.

Code: [Select]
Missile Size: 5 MSP  (0.25 HS)     Warhead: 12    Armour: 0     Manoeuvre Rating: 10
Speed: 48000 km/s    Engine Endurance: 25 minutes   Range: 72.6m km
Cost Per Missile: 6
Chance to Hit: 1k km/s 480%   3k km/s 160%   5k km/s 96%   10k km/s 48%
Materials Required:    3x Tritanium   3x Gallicite   Fuel x2500

Code: [Select]
Missile Size: 1 MSP  (0.05 HS)     Warhead: 2    Armour: 0     Manoeuvre Rating: 10
Speed: 48000 km/s    Engine Endurance: 11 minutes   Range: 30.2m km
Cost Per Missile: 1.1
Chance to Hit: 1k km/s 480%   3k km/s 160%   5k km/s 96%   10k km/s 48%
Materials Required:    0.5x Tritanium   0.6x Gallicite   Fuel x625

I have no clue how those two came out to same speed despite the size difference. BTW this is Magneto-Plasma Era

This seems to be an okay missile except for a thing or two. First of all, you should change the warhead. The most efficient damage is done in squares so you either wan to drop it to 9 or bump it up to 16 (another post of mine somewhere else stated how to get these exact using the least, damage wanted/warhead tech=msp). Maybe, if you can, try to make it a bit faster. Something else is bothering me but I can' t quite put my finger on it.
Code: [Select]
Missile Size: 1 MSP  (0.05 HS)     Warhead: 2    Armour: 0     Manoeuvre Rating: 10
Speed: 48000 km/s    Engine Endurance: 11 minutes   Range: 30.2m km

Same thing as the first, change your warhead for the role you want it t play. AMMs should be 1, or a cheap size 1 AFM/ASM would need a 4. For the former, you would want this to generally be able to hit itself without missing, so you would want to bump up the engines and maneuvering, also you shouldn't need  a much fuel as you do (maybe drop it to 50-150).
I have no clue how those two came out to same speed despite the size difference. BTW this is Magneto-Plasma Era
Most likely your engine/size ratio is the same assuming they are using similar engine types. Could you put the missile engines you are using on them here?
