Changes to Ground Unit Training for v5.02
« on: March 01, 2010, 03:31:44 PM »
The ground forces training mechanics have been around a long time and don't make much sense under the current ground forces organization. Therefore I have made the following changes for v5.02

The morale of ground units may increase over time, based on the Ground Forces Training Rating of their brigade and division commanders. Every non-HQ unit is checked every 5-day increment. Those that have at least 100 morale (i.e. have fully recovered from combat) and are on the same planet as their Brigade Headquarters have a chance of morale increase. The base annual chance of increase is equal to the Ground Forces Training Rating of the Brigade commander. If the parent Division HQ of the Brigade HQ is also on the same planet, half the Ground Forces Training Rating of the Division commander is added to the chance of increase. If the Morale of the ground unit is above 100, the chance of morale increase is reduced by double the amount of morale exceeding 100. This does not applies to battalions, Brigade HQs and Division HQs that are on board ships or in PDCs. So a battalion in a PDC cannot gain morale from training and a battalion on a planetary surface outside a PDC cannot gain morale from training if the Brigade HQ is on a ship or in a PDC.

Example 1:
A heavy assault battalion with a morale of 100 is on the same planet with its parent brigade HQ. The commander of the HQ has a training rating of 150. Therefore the annual chance of a morale increase is 150%. This is checked every 5-day increment based on a proportion of the annual chance. Assuming the 5-day increment is exactly 5-days, the chance of increase in each increment would be 150% x (5/360) = 2.083%

Example 2:
An infantry battalion with a morale of 110 is on the same planet with its parent brigade HQ and its division HQ. The commander of the brigade HQ has a training rating of 100 and the commander of the division HQ has a training rating of 250. The base annual chance of a morale increase is equal to the training rating of the brigade commander (100) plus half that of the division commander (125) minus double the amount by which the infantry battalions morale exceeds 100 (-20), which adds up to 205. Assuming the 5-day increment is exactly 5-days, the chance of increase in each increment would be 205% x (5/360) = 2.847%

This provides a further benefit to maintaining brigade and divisional integrity and makes the training rating much more useful. Bear in mind that you can still put ground units into PDCs for protection but they can only train outside those PDCs.

Multiple Ground unit selection would make this change sweeter.  Clicking all 4 marine/troop and setting them under a brigade with 1/4 the clicks is ideal.
