So, there are three main superpowers:
  • Free State Alliance
  • North America Union
  • Russian Confederation
And then there's the Red Duncanites, a mysterious group of space pirates and terrarists.

In addition, it sounds like the European Union may have recently acquired spacefaring ships and/or TN technology, possibly making it a sort of minor power. Correct?

I was wondering what flags each of these groups would use.

I wouldn't be too surprised if the Russian Confederation team (player?) uses the familiar hammer and sickle flag of the old Soviet Union. But are they truly Communist all over again? (The Communist Party was banned in 1991 by then-President Boris Yeltsin.) And this post by AL proclaimed that this was the start of a new age for them:
Quote
The dawn of a new age is upon us, comrades!
So, perhaps they'd want to emphasize this by adopting a different flag (in traditional colors and symbolism)?

I suppose the European Union may still be using the Flag of Europe. However, it sounds like this is some alternate history. And since this is about 84 years hence, they may have experienced some turmoil (such as Great Britain, Denmark and Sweden leaving), possibly leading to a change of flag. Maybe they'd use one of the rejected EU flag proposals? Or maybe something similar to the old Flag of the Western European Union (minus the letters on the bottom)?

I bring this up because I find flags interesting and I think it would be fun to try to design flags for these groups.

It wouldn't be too hard to combine elements from the flags of Canada, Mexico and the United States. (Obviously, the maple leaf has to be there, somewhere.)

Though, making a flag for the FSA would be a real challenge without some ideas of what it represents or some ideal or symbols or something. I realize that it represents southern African and parts of the Middle East. But besides that?

BTW: I was surprised that China and/or India hasn't tried to get into this space race. They're the two most populous nations, each with over a billion. However, they are certainly not the wealthiest, with a GDP (PPP) ranking below many other countries. And their population is predicted to stagnate, while most other nations grow.

Edit:

Aw, heck... I can't resist making up a flag for the NAU.

Here's my first version:

And here's a 215 x 175 px resize for use in-game:

(BTW: I have .SVG's if anyone wants to resize to any size desired.)

Here's a "simplified version". I removed the white stripes and changed the gold stars to green:

Again, here's a 215 x 175 px resize for use in-game:

(I also have .SVG's of these, if anyone wants to resize them.)

Symbolism:
  • The Canadian symbolism at the upper right is obvious.
  • The United States has nearly always been represented by white stars on a blue field, with red and white stripes. But the number of stars has changed over the years. And in terms of military insignia, it has been represented by a single white star in a symbol of red, white and blue. Examples: The Army Air Corps Symbol is a white star on a blue circle, with a red dot in the center, while the Air Force Roundel (U.S. Aircraft Star) is a white star on a blue circle with a red stripe on white wings on either side.
  • For most of it's history, the flag of Mexico has been a vertical tricolor of green, white, and red with a coat of arms. The flag that was adopted after their independence in 1821, though, was called the "Flag of the Three Guarantees." It was a diagonal tricolor with three stars. The white field symbolized religion, the green independence, and the red the union of Spanish and Mexican peoples. Today, the white represents union, green hope, and red the blood of heroes.
This NAU flag is further symbolized by how the Canadian symbolism is located at the upper right, representing the North and how the Mexican symbolism is at the lower left, representing the South.

Also, the flags of all three countries use red and white. The red of all three flags is shared as a narrow stripe between them. And they also share wide stripes of white, the color representing unity. The sharing, itself, is also sign of unity. (BTW: While each flag uses a different shade of red, the color red that I used is from the US flag.)

The simplified version I did merely because some may complain that complexity can be too distracting. Adding a fifth color (golden yellow) adds complexity, as does the extra white stripes.

Nice to see some "neutrals" taking interest in the game. This is the Russian Confederation flag.

Took me a while to come up with what a FSA flag would look like.

The Orange stripe is common on South African flags.
The block of the flag is based on the Iranian flag.
Then the three symbols are Lebanon, South Africa (before 1994), and Iran.

The FSA  roundel is based off Rhodesia.

I may add china/india as NPC powers,  but I am reserving them for later, perhaps as minor powers who are a generation of technology behind everyone.

Nice to see some "neutrals" taking interest in the game. This is the Russian Confederation flag.

That's definitely a fine flag and I'm sure you're satisfied with it.

Back in September when I created that flag for NAU, I had also played around with a flag for the Russian Confederation.

I like your flag better. But, merely because I had these lying around, I thought I'd at least show what I made:

The color scheme is based on the old Flag of the Russian SFSR and the Russian Federation. (I thought that the blue of the current Russian flag made it too similar to the red, white and blue of other countries.) The star burst in the last flag is straight from the Russian "Flag of Ministry of Emergency Situations."

Currently, I'm working on a flag pack, which I will eventually share in Graphics Packs. And I'll probably include some of these.

For the Lurkers

a fleet of Run Duncinate ( a terror group) ships was able to sneak into 10 million KMs of earth.   They just went active on their sensors.
