Fantasy is not a genre I normally usually rate for any number of reasons, main gripe usually being that I find the world to be unconvincing (Tolkien's Orcs for example. During peace time what do they eat? How does Mordor support so many Orcs, since Orcs do not appear to engage in agriculture and Mordor looks completely unsuited to either growing crops or raising cattle)?
I didn't really like the world depicted, but the substance and plot is pure brilliance. Book is fully worth the time and money
