I`m taking a new crack at aurora fiction. So here goes.
By 2100 Earths population had reached 11 billion. Our home could no longer support the growing population.
Climate change, fierce competition for resources, deforestation just to name a few became serious enough to require radical solutions.
A popular movement where people gave up reproduction voluntarily or had just one child became highly successful.
By 2200 population had fallen to just 2 billion which was considered sustainable with current supply of resources.
However population decline did not stop there and by 2300 earth had just 500 million people living on it.
The year is 2300 a new effort to repopulate the planet is underway, new ground breaking technologies have been discovered including
transnewtonian elements. To avoid the problems of the past our solar system holds vast quantities of everything we could possibly need and we stand ready to
to venture into the stars.
A fleet of scientific, military and civilian ships prepare to survey and colonize our solar system and beyond.

We also don`t have any troop transports or dedicated scouts.
First we will colonize the moon, mars and mercury and well see after that.

That's a different explanation than the usual "war happened" as for why Earth only has 500b pop, I like it.
I also like your designs, they look like a solid and orthodox doctrine. One thing I can point out is that FACs, defined as any ships of 1 000 tons or less, don't actually need a bridge.

With this tech level and range you might wish significantly more rapid missiles with powered engines - smth like this for example:

P.S. It seems you just have no engine boost tech. This tech line, though, is one of the most important for missile-oriented navy.

Fleet construction continues with two guardian class ships and two defiance class corvettes.
November 18 2301 Our Solar system has been surveyed with dissapointing results, only significant finds are Io with 2.9 million tons of duranium at 0.8
and a few asteroids with some potential.
So apparently military ships with military jump drives but commercial engines can`t jump, a slight revision is in order. (I did spacemaster it.)

For the first time we have left our solar system, the jump revealed two habitability 2 dwarf planets at Barnards Star.
Total of six jump points have been found inside our solar system, we will keep exploring trying to slowly build a gate network and some colonies.
Three new asteroid miners have been built and I forgot to include a refueling system on the fuel harvesters, that`s been corrected.
Best Terraforming candidate so far at Alpha Centauri, with only slight adjustment to temperature would make it habitable. Survey craft Neil Armstrong is dispatched
to further investigate.

Contact! Moments ago we received word that Neil Armstrong has been fired upon and destroyed by unknown assailants.
The Fleet is mobilizing for a rescue and scouting mission. Task Force Alpha consisting of nine ships: Hunter, Nimrod, Defender, Sentry, Canopus, Arcturus, Audacious,
Dauntless and Madrid is underway to investigate.
Some question the wisdom in committing such a large part of our home fleet in this expedition but we need to be able to fight should the need to arise.
The signals from the lifepods have stopped even tough they should have enough air and supplies to last another 10 days, we grow even more concerned
for the survivors.
Jump to Alpha Centauri is uneventful. we begin to make our way towards the wreckage.
Task Force detects an alien vessel, thermal signature 1856 speed 5441km/s, if he decides to run or engage we have no way of catching it.
Three more vessels detected, most likely military.

We are being fired upon 5 salvos of 4 size 6 missiles at defence range, speed 32000km/s while ours only go 14000km/s
We seem to be outmatched reversing course to give point defence a little more time to respond.
The enemy with its faster ships completely controls the engagement I think it`s time for us to run unless they exhaust their supply of missiles.
DDG Arcturus takes 20 strenght 6 hits but armour absorbs the damage, The less well armored TJ Madrid gets hit with the same kind of salvo taking internal hits and losing 66 crew
DDG Canopus loses an engine and detaches from the battle group hoping to delay the enemy trying to give the rest a change to escape. Another salvo TJ Hunter is destroyed
in a massive explosion. TJ Nimrod is gone. ES Sentry takes damage to engines, CT Audacious Loses engines so does CT Dauntless the missiles keep coming. ES Defender is destroyed
For a moment the missiles stop and it seems that that Madrid and Arcturus could escape but 10 minutes later another salvo appears with predictable results. The enemy finishes off the survivors.
A Great loss for humanity.
We have lost the battle of Alpha Centauri. The butchers bill comes to 1759 souls not including the 142 on Neil Armstrong.
It`s looking bleak, we lost every ship in the task force and weren`t able to land a single hit on the enemy.
An advanced enemy just one jump away from our home system will be a challenge. Obviously strenghtening our defences will be a priority.
If we manage to survive, we certainly need to eliminate the threat. Their home world could be Alpha Centauri A-III but this is not certain since I didn`t include thermal or
EM sensors on the discovery class. It would have certainly picked up a potential population if I had.
What do we know?
First they fired energy weapons near the planet without us detecting a vessel.
Second their missiles fired once every 20 seconds sending 20 missiles our way. Their missile fire controls have slightly longer range 26 million- vs 22 million kilometers.
Thirdly our Missile defences, especially the AMMs were completely useless.
Even at our tech level carriers and fighters or fast attack craft could offer us a change to fight back, we first need reliable AMM, maybe gauss. Also tankers or slightly
longer ranged vessels.
It`s back to the drawing board.

Incredible, we have detected another new alien vessel one jump point away at GJ 1075. These ones at least didn`t fire on sight.
Communication attemps are on the way.
Meanwhile the only thing we could gain on the alpha centaurians is missile range, that is why there are a few new designs.

The missile range is nearly twice theirs and while accuracy is lousy well massproduce them.
Then there are two new fast attack crafts designed to work as a team, the other paints the targests while the other packs the punch.
They can also be built in the same shipyard.

We are also looking in to gauss cannons but functional designs will take a while. Most importantly we need more speed so new engine technologies are being
developed however they are far from being finished.
I think we have found the GJ1075 aliens home system at 36 Ursae Majoris.
We have established full communications, they identify themselves as the Empire of Ohtlan.
It`s getting crowded in our space aliens just one and two jumps away. At least the Ohtlans are friendly. Their home planet seems slightly more populous than ours
based on the thermal and electromagnetic signature. We promptly leave not wanting to risk an incident.
A third alien race detected in GJ1075 we need a strong navy yesterday, there could be hope that these are the same aliens but they show as separate in the intelligence window.
Six alien vessels just popped into sol from GJ1075 jump point home fleet is on high alert. They stayed at the jump point for a while and left.
Finally a breakthrough, Ion engines. Here is the new improved missile destroyer, it sacrifices almost everything for speed.

The Ohtlans paid us a trade visit, tensions were high because their commercial ships we`re escorted by what seem to be military.
We requested they leave since it`s slightly risky to allow them in our home system.

Battlegroup Beta consisting of 2x Hermes, 12x Star II, 8x Prometheus and 2x Swift + 24 fighters are finally ready to take the fight to alpha centauri.
Revenge has been long time coming.

Scout ship Swift takes the highly risky jump to alpha centauri.
The Ohtlans beat us to it, there are 25 ships sitting at the jump gate, we transit rest of the fleet through.
Contact! Swift detects the enemy near the first planet.

Swift reverses course but is allready under fire. Single strenght 6 hit destroys some fuel tanks, no casualties. Second hit by 2 missiles causes havoc and causes fatalities, an engine is hit so we order abandon ship to save the rest of the crew. Fighters from Hermes and Icarus are launched to make the first strike and resque survivors.
Some time later fighters pick up the enemy and launch the first salvo at the largest enemy vessel.

Enemy reverses cource and launches AMM`s. We land hits on Valkha, no internal damage, lets do that again! Fighters refueled and rearmed, the enemy ships have retreated near the third planet, on the way the fighters pick up the survivors. Enemy in sight, open fire! Success, scratch one. One more time. Combat air groups detect 8 new ships on Alpha Centauri A-III. Energy weapon impacts shoot down our missiles, likely source being the 39 thousand ton ships designated Nomads. It is doubtful we can penetrate their defenses even if we fire all of our ordnance but we will try just that.
All fighters recovered it`s time for the big boys. Missile salvos approaching, our Prometheus class better prove worth this. First salvo destroyed 16 more incoming. The battlegroup shoots down every missile and we close to missile range. Enemy ships CIWS and gauss cannons shoot down all of our nearly two thousand missiles. Currently holding at 10 million kilometers not wanting to risk their potential AMM`s. We close to 9 million kilometers and the enemy responds with more missiles. Closing to 3.5 million kilometers as we detect a 20000 ton ground unit. They launch massive amounts of size 1 missiles, battle group reverses course to get out of range.
It`s a standoff we can`t close in and they hold their ground. New strategy is required. The fleet reverses course and heads back to earth.

Any ideas on overcoming the size 1 missile spam? I`m currently building ships with heavier armor and shields but those will take years.
I could build a civilian ship with tons of armor and CIWS but that seems gamey. Enough armor should also change a commercial ship to military in my book.

AAMMs and more gauss is really the only thing you can do other than what you have already. Having more passive defense on ships is also good. Shields in particular do very good against AMMs.
