These improved missile designs incorporated the Federation’s new magnetic fusion drive, as well as other improvements in warhead and maneuverability.   Federation designers have elected to retain or even slightly reduce the newer missile’s range, devoting the space-savings to increase the missile’s other capabilities.

This design is classed as a Military Vessel for maintenance purposes

This design incorporates the Federation’s latest technology, developed in reaction to the Battle of 40 Eridani.  This design includes shields, ECM, and ECCM.  The electronic warfare suite was considered a necessary improvement, given the outcome of the last battle against the alien warships.  Space for the new systems was made by reducing the offensive missile capacity by 20 box launchers, reducing the armor belt by approximately 14%, and by slightly reducing the engineering complement.

This design is classed as a Military Vessel for maintenance purposes

As with the Belknap class this refit was driven by the lessons learned in the Battle of 40 Eridani.  The overall ship mass has been increased by 1,300 tons due to the larger jump capability of the Belknap class, and this tonnage has been devoted to the improvements installed in this refit.  In addition, the ship’s fuel tankage and engineering complement have been slightly reduced.   The new electronic warfare suite includes ECM and ECCM installations for all fire control systems.

This design is classed as a Military Vessel for maintenance purposes

The fuel tankage has been reduced to make space for the installation of an ECM system.  This refit was intended to rush the ECM system into use, however, by the time refits began other improved systems were available and Fleet Command decided to skip the B refits entirely in favor of the Mod C refit below.  Only two units of the Portland class were refitted to this standard and they were subsequently refitted to the Mod C standard shortly thereafter.

Fleet Command was shocked at how easily the alien ships destroyed a gunboat squadron in 40 Eridani.  Therefore, this class was commissioned in an attempt to give gunboat squadrons some anti-missile capability.

Do you have problems with deployment time on the gunboats, since the fleet scout tenders do not have flight crew berths?

Do you have problems with deployment time on the gunboats, since the fleet scout tenders do not have flight crew berths?

Not so far.  If there is a way to add flight crew berths, please tell me.  I assumed that the berths were added when I added the hangers.

Thanks.  Of course, I haven't noticed any negative effects with the current designs.  The scout carrier is the only carrier design the Federation currently uses, and there aren't too many of them, so its possible it just hasn't been a factor yet.
