Point Defence Woes

I am attempting to get my ships to stick with a point defence mode, but encountering problems.  One of the ships in the fleet has 'agreed' to stick with Area Defence 16, and actually fires on incoming missiles.  The other ships refuse to keep this setting, and reset to Point Blank 32 after every 5s increment.  I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong - please help.

It would probably be helpful to see a screen shot of what you're doing to set the mode.

Make very sure NOT to use the AUTO-FIRE option.  The button is included only for ships which follow the design philosophy used by the NPRs.  It is intended for ships which only have a SINGLE fire-control system.  It automatically assigns all weapons on a given ship to a single on-board fire-control system.
