WOuld be nice if you could make the windows all one size, and just add scroll bar capability to each window to see all the info.

I have tried that in the past with little success. VB6 just isn't really geared up for that type of thing and its a huge amount of work to try and get it working. You also run into the problem that Windows itself will chop the window size to its max resolution and even scrolling wont fix it. With something like C# and WPF it is very easy but re-writing Aurora in a modern language is going to take a long time.

My netbook res is 1024x768, height of windows is ok. Space window cuts the bottom at same place, but cuts the right side at the 1 day button/sector button, leaving all to the right off. The P&P window cuts at the 1day/gu training/shipyard/sm buttons.

The minimum width for Aurora is 1280. It's very unlikely that will change.

What is the resolution on your netbook?

I don't think you are missing anything vital below the "Highlight Own Colony" check box. Just the Hyper Limit display option on the Display tab and the Spacetime Bubble option on the Contacts tab.

the reduced height window works fine on my normal laptop (res 1366x768), though the space window cuts off at the "Highlight Own Colony" check box.

But I mostly carry my netbook around with me and it will not, handle either the space window or the reduced windows. I have also noticed that resizeenable and gemespace wll not work around this issue with all versions of Aurora. 5.4 being one of them. 5.3 did work.

ran the 5.40 installer - got the reduced height windows in the Options menu but all it did was cut off the bottom of the normal size windows.....

Did I do something wrong?

Hmm that's weird. What resolution are you using?

BTW, you would be better posting something like this in the bugs thread. Otherwise, I will probably get distracted and forget about this message in this thread while I always go back to the bugs thread.

Steve is is possible to have an import/export option, I just spend a great deal of time porting my BrightStar game, alas I have suffered some issues, with some missing details but enough to keep going on my game.

An Import / Export feature would be a really useful tool into the future as well, for future updates.

Actually, I would rather wait a lot longer for 5.40 than have it come out now and become obsolete after a few weeks. I have something rather epic in mind for my next campaign that is going to take so long to do I'm afraid that I'll be playing the betamax version of Aurora by the time it gets interesting.

oh, and to keep in theme with this thread.....

... Dawn. The first rays of light illuminated the priests kneeling before the altar, as their ancestors in generations lost had knelt, heads facing the ground in fear of the light of their god. The shadow cast by the altar moved slowly across the worn marble floor until it touched the pitted metal casing that had once housed the colony's AI Prime. The long night was over, the high priest raised his head and declared,

"We welcome the day, we give thanks for deliverance from the cold dark night.".

The words were the same, said for more than a thousand years, since the evacuation of long forgotten Sol, since the plague wars, the collapse of society and its pale re-creation here 43 light years from the birthplace of man.

"Mind you", the High Priest said, "5.40 should be out this weekend."

.... We write the year 30 after the supposed release.
The masses are still waiting for the great update.
The world is an disarray.
But it is still not coming.
Everyday, people are praying on the street, everyday, sceptics commit suicide.
It is rumored that Steve has recently died of old age, muttering something about "just one last feature".

A special unit was sent to investigate, but found his house abandoned. The New version, 5.40, of Aurora, is assumed to be in his underground bunker, but the several thousand tons of hard drives can't be stolen that easily, and the guard robot only let's those past that win a game of poker against him.

Slowly, but steadily... the world sinks into darkness.

Man, that must be a great new version. ;D
