Jump Gate construction ships
« on: April 25, 2008, 07:22:07 PM »
Do jump gate construction ships require cargo holds to hold the jump gate components?  Or can a freighter attached to the task group do it?

I constructed a jump gate const. ship with no holds, and with a freighter's (part of the task group) holds full of a jump gate component headed for the warp point.  It got there with instructions to build the gate, but could not because of a lack of components.

Well this used to work fine.  One JG Construction ship and 5 parts on board freighters attached to the TG.  Haven't tried to build one yet since 3.0 though.

I only had 1.  I figured 1 jump gate component will build 1 jump gate.

Guess I'll have to build more.  Thanks for the info.

Note also that the freighters only need to be part of the Jump Gate building TG at the point when the gate is started, once the gate is underway you can send the freighters elsewhere to do useful work. You may need a jump ship to return the frieghters from the far side of a jump point tho if the gate is still under construction.

After building 4 more jump gate components and sending them to the JP via freighters, I was able to construct the gate.

Thanks for the info everyone.

I changed this for v3.0 (and didn't tell anyone) so that construction ships will use any jump gate components in the same location, not just the same fleet. I just got fed up of having to combine fleets and then separate them again :)
