Galactic Map
« on: February 22, 2011, 11:21:20 AM »
So i just explored a couple of systems, four to be precise.  I checked the galactic map but they all appear to be at the same place so i can only select one.  Is this a bug or is there a fix for this?

Disregard this, random derping in the systems map has revealed that I really don't need the galactic map right now.  But if you know why the systemsw are placed smack dab on eachother on the GM then please do enlighten me.

You need to drag the systems to where you want them. This allows you to set the map up however you want. Click the help button at the top and the side panel will explain how to drag them. I've copied the key section here for quick reference.

To move a single system, just hold shift and
drag the system using the mouse. To move
multiple systems, firstly use Ctrl-Click to
select several systems or drag a box around
them, then hold shift and drag one of the
selected systems. Other selected systems
will also be moved by the same amount.

To deselect one of the selected systems use
Ctrl-click again. To quickly deselect all
selected systems, drag the mouse in a clear
area

The Keypad numbers can be used to move
the map in eight directions. The Keypad plus
and minus can be used to zoom in and out.

Be aware that unlike the older Galactic Map,
no changes to system position are saved
until the Save System Positions button is
pressed. This allows experimentation without
commitment. Or you can use the Save System
Position option on the right-click menu

What would be nice to have and it has a probable very low priority of being implemented (I'm sure there are more important things to work on) is that the lines between systems are straight. As the number of systems grow and some sytems having hi numbers of new jumps to go to; straight lines are limiting. Having lines that can go at right angles or other angles would be nice, even freehand. If lines end up crossing, use an ? sort of symbol for crossing like in a schematic. Lessens the confusion of which system goes where. Maybe color coding lines.

Drat.  I thought this was something that was left out of the FAQ, and was all ready to add it, but discovered that it's already there....
