Interface Questions
« on: September 12, 2008, 09:32:08 AM »
Hey all, absolutely new to the game and I am having some trouble with the interface, something of a game stopping bug for me, which there must be a way around since it seems everyone else has found it.

I am playing through the tutorial, I am on section 2. I go to system view and/or hit the F9 key, and the window comes up. The window is slightly taller than my monitor resolution, and the information the window tries to display falls way off to every side. There appears to be no way to actually change this at present. Clearly I am missing something obvious, since everyone else has made it past this portion. Pardon my slowness.  :?

The minimum resolution is 1280x1024.

There was a post about a screen scroller. I want to say it is in the bugs forum

I played around with my resolution settings for the PC itself, since there doesn't seem to be one for the game alone. And nothing worked. I discovered that there is much, much more to the display missing than I realized, but at no point could reveal it all.

This might be a bug?

What resolution are you running on your PC?

I normally run it at 1280x768.

While trying to fix it I began with Erik Luken's statement that 1280x1064 was the minimum. I kept making it larger and larger until reaching the final value of 1680x1050. I might keep my computer here because it looks gorgeous. But unfortunately it does not make the system display show up entirely..

On the main bar, under the Miscellaneous menu, try Reset Window Positions.

Other than that, wow. I run at 1650x1050 and have no issues. My task bar is double-wide and I can fit the System window on the screen with no issues.

Are you using large fonts, or anything similar?

I am now living with 1650x1050 and enjoying it immensely. But this still has not solved the problem.

Reset Window Positions does nothing.

I use smaller fonts when I can to fit more data onscreen.

Hmmm...I use 1400x1050 and I don't have any problems.  Are you still having the same problem you mentioned in the first post of this thread - where the windows are partially off-screen or truncated?

That should not happen at your resolution unless you have some sort of special setting somewhere.

I am still having the problem. It is less severe now, I can see the entire horizontal of the screen... but the vertical is still way off and hiding most of the display. I can see the words "atmospheric data" but what this data is, I cannot say. Is there air? I don't know! This hinders space exploration when the presence of air cannot be determined without taking your helmet off...

If you mean on the grid of planets, there should be some scroll bars to get to the off screen columns.

The grid and that scroll bar were never missing. At first it was about a third of the whole display on one side gone. Now just part of the bottom is gone.

Could you post a screenshot of the problem?

There it is, in all of it's glory. I try moving it and that is really the whole image. There is nothing below that. The whole planet image is not displayed, I cannot shrink the size of that window or expand it, and even if I could expand it to see everything, seeing everything would still require moving the top bar far up and off screen.

Nothing that can be done with it works.
