Those Who Must Endure Chapter 5 - BETA
« on: September 28, 2016, 09:13:56 PM »

########################## BEGIN TRANSMISSION ##############################
FROM: Tsukuyomi Ryoko, CO of 94th IJN Battalion on board CV Amaterasu
TO: IMPERIAL HIGH COMMAND
PRIORITY: CLEARANCE Z5

On the 15th of December, 2040, 94th Battalion was tasked with a reconnaissance and search and rescue mission in the Luhman 16 sector, where a captured Soviet geo explorer went missing. The 94th refueled at Earth and exchanged it's flight of Himei class TSFs for the new Shiranui Third, of which 4 prototypes were built named 'Shiranui', the nameship of the class, 'Magatsu', 'Suzaku' and 'Byakko'.

Specifications as follows:
XFJ 01 Shiranui Third class Tactical Surface Fighter    500 tons     1 Crew     303 BP      TCS 10  TH 120  EM 0

This design is classed as a military vessel for maintenance purposes

The new class of TSFs were in specification range of the other flights, speedwise, although a new Data Link could not be developed in time due to Soviet aggression. They were assigned to the Trident Squadron.

December 19th: Our jump was successful, and we quickly recovered from our sensor blindness. No problems discovered. Ships accounted for:

CV Amaterasu
SV Blue Jay (Support Vessel)
FF Kibou
FF Yabou
DD Kage
DD Yami
6x TSF Shiranui Improved
1x iTSF Type 00c Takemikazuchi
4x TSF Shiranui Third

No sign of GE Moskva in Luhman 16.

24th December: Came in contact with 4 new BETA class stellar vessels. They maintain their distance from us as we approach. We close in to 300 million kilometers, before our thermals pick up a thermal signal, closing in at 38,000 kilometers per second. Closer inspection reveals that it is a cluster of a new form of BETA with an unknown propulsion system, clearly designed to intercept warships, and either penetrate or explode on contact.

Support Vessel Blue Jay is detached and we move at the maximum task force speed of nearly 6000 kilometers per second to intercept the BETA class we designated as 'Ordinance', as it is still unclear whether it is a projectile or explosive weapon.

First contact established. Due to errors on board the frigates, the CIWS could not fire upon the BETA. DD Yami was hit by two of the Ordinance class BETA, and a catastrophic internal explosion from one of the engines, took out the other engine, starting an Ion Fire chain reaction that consumed the entire ship in a matter of seconds. All hands are lost, including Daisa Yamakawa Maemi.

Ordinance class BETA designated as Lucifer, comparable to a Size 5 missile with a 13 unit strength warhead. Launcher platform designated as Launcher class Beta; Apparent time to reload is 60 seconds.

Recommendation: Counter with fast fighters and destroy sensory organ.

Plan of Action: Launch Trident Squadron on intercept mission. No other change of action.

Frigates calibrate fire controls and intercept next wave of Ordinance. All Ordinance destroyed.

20 minutes after launch of Trident Squadron, they intercept the Launcher Class, four of them, and destroy them.

In a last ditch effort, the BETA displayed intelligence in launching their missiles at the Support Vessel, and successfully manage to destroy it. Survivors recovered.

Friendly Casualties: DD Yami. No other damage sustained.

24th December: Discovered wreckage of GE Moskva around the second planet of the second star in Luhman 16. Discovered jumpgate to unknown sector. Made a Reconnaissance jump and discovered it leads to Luyten's Star. No enemies detected on other side.

27th December: Returned to Sol for refuel and rearm, as well as maintenance.

Recommendation: Monitor Luhman 16 and Luyten's Star. With no forward base at Luhman 16, the BETA encountered must've been a scout squadron.
