PFC questions
« on: January 31, 2012, 01:45:32 PM »
Hello again Academy, just started to think about putting some fighter bases on Earth.

Do these bases need Fuel Storage or will they use Earth's?

Is 25,000tn Hangar Space good enough for a starter PFC?

Is it worth putting the sensors on the PFC itself or on a dedicated PDC?

And finally, do PDC/PFCs suffer maintenance failures?

Well... A fighter's max tonnage is 500t. So you'd get 50 fighters in it. If you built FACs (1000t), you'd get 25 in there. From everything I've done, and seen others do, most fighter wings are in the 10-15 bird range. So 50 fighters is 5 flights.

Is is overkill that I'm building four of them then?

It is only overkill if you are planning on smaller fighter groups.

I suppose with that much hangar space you could put larger ships in there too, I seem to remember that anything below that size limit can be contained in a hangar, which could be interesting. I imagine someone will correct me if I am wrong though.

I tend to build lots of Hangar space on Earth so that I can pre-build fighter groups for any Carriers that are under construction.

My usual Fighters are only 190 tons or so, though... not 500.

I did say max tonnage ;)

And yes, you can house any ship under the hangar size in the hangar. That's how I designed the original battleglobes. They carried something like 5-10 5000 ton ships as "fighters".

No. On the other hand, the "Refit PDC" option doesn't work... last time I checked it. The PDCs emerge from refit without any of the designated changes being made.

Ok I'll use some SM wizardry to get around that :D. Thanks for telling me.

Yeah, refit PDC is still broken, you spend the money and resources but nothing happens. You don't need fuel storage on them, they will automatically use the fuel in the colony.
