Automating resource transportation

Is there a way to do it? I know I can set a freighter/cargo ship to repeat order carry resources back and forth, but it seems like once you get a lot of colonies this would become much more tedious/difficult.

Make a resource hub in each system and have all mining sites mass driver resources there. Then you only need player controlled freighters for infer system mineral transport which you can automate via cycle orders. In you want to save fuel make sure you stipulate a minimum pickup amout so you don't end up transporting 1 Duranium!
