A short update, but it should give you guys enough food for thought while I am away.

September 16, the first TN spacecraft launches, the Esperanza, an 850 ton vessel beloning to the Communidad Mediterraneo, they claim it is a harmless geo survey ship, it immediately leaves Earth orbit and goes beyond ground based sensor range.


November 16, Esperanza locates megatons of all TN minerals on Mars, Captain Patricia Cardenes Orozco made a poor command decision and transmits the news back to earth in the clear, predictably this is picked up by all major powers. This would not have been a huge problem save for the other news sent back, from orbit the Esperanza's powerful survey sensor detected unmistakable signs of artificial structures. The discovery though half anticipated by many, still sends shockwaves through the international community.

In other news, the respective empires build and research programs proceed apace, with Japan laying down the hull for a vessel in her shipyard, Duranium shortages begin to plague most of the world and many empires begin shifting production to mines.

When the Northern Kingdom's surveillance stations picked up the report from the Esperanza the Palace in Pendragon became a busy place.  At first all effort was made to hide the report, but it was clear early on that other nations hat picked up the report as well and even some civilian stations were able to pick up the signal.  Hiding the facts about precious resources on Mars and even alien ruins there was now impossible.

Since the first trans-newtonian spacecraft was launched by the Communidad Mediterraneo there was already talk in the Palace about pushing the Northern Kingdom's own trans-newtonian space program.  Now it was even pushed into the public sector. 
Shows and discussions about alien life, alien observation of Earth from Mars, theories about humans originating from Mars and talks about the Northern Kingdom lacking in trans-newtonian technology for space faring vessels bloomed up everywhere.

Reaction's from the Palace however were swift and drastic.  Military presence was doubled in all major cities.  TV shows disappeared while airing, moderators were replaced and broadcast stations were closed.
The Palace remained silent apart from stating that "all efforts are made to ensure the Northern Kingdom's further prosperity".

The Queen's birthday party was also more grandiose than any year before in an effort to calm the citizens.  With nothing else to show, the number of viewers set a new record again.

This is no Aurora event and has no influence on the actual game - just 'story development' within the Northern Kingdom.

The news soon reached the Original hiding place in the vesuvio thanks to the GI's. (Guardie Imperiali, Imperial Guards) The secret police service which worked like a mix between fbi, cia, and what-not. And obviously, it was something which did not exist in neo-italy.
The clone who gave the news trembled in fear and run away screaming when the Original raised his hand, it was hardcoded in their genes after all, they all feared him, like rats fear the snakes. The only problem being that the snake was also their leader, their father, and they also loved him. Miracles of genetics, aren't they?
So, when the Original was left to cool down the news, he flipped a switch and started speaking to the scientists in charge of the production of the ships...
"so...were are our survey ships?"
"sir...they are still bein..."
"nono, i'm asking, were are they now? are they in the docks? ready to fly in space?"
"sir we are still doin..."
"now then, let me be clear as possible. You will have them done fast. Or i will make sure to personally have you moved to the Practical Research section, the one were the mortality rate is unluckily of 98%"
"b..b..."
"NO BUTS. NOW GET TO WORK YOU DIMWIT!"
"yes sir!" and the intercom buzzes off.

The rest of Neo-italy population receives the news without showing whatsoever response. Since they are waiting for the original to show one, so they can have the same. Otherwise they have their everyday life in front of them...why should they care?
...there is the new tv program though "Scientifical evaluation of cellular beings" so they are hyped for it to begin...

President Gomez steps up to the podium set up for a large press conference outside the national headquarters.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, we are pleased to announce that the recently launched scientific mission to chart new resources in the Solar System has delivered some incredible news following their recently completed survey of Mars. There have been many theories about life on Mars in the past, but we can now seriously say, that they are theories no more; the survey ship Esperanza has found evidence of extensive ruins under the surface of the planet, the origins of which remain unknown. Captain Patricia Cardenes Orozco who is in charge of the mission, felt that the findings were important enough to warrant a worldwide broadcast, and I support her decision in this 100%. She will receive a promotion and decorations once she returns to Earth. The devastation caused by the Invasion opened our eyes to the possibility of other intelligence out there, be it freindly or unfreindly, and hopefully the Xenology team being assembled for transfer to Mars will be able to shed more light on who once lived on Mars. Thank you."

At the beginning of 2038 debates arose within the Japanese Alliance about a unified currency within their borders. So far Japan had kept it's Yen and Korea the Won, whereas the North Korean Won was still worth roughly 8 of the South Korean Won. With reconstruction and strong trade in heavy industries, steel and food happening between the internal borders of the Japanese Alliance a unified currency could simplify commercial affairs by a great amount. However, both sides show equal resistance to a change of their currency and suggestions were made about abandoning both currencies and using a new one to symbolise the unity. Although the latter idea received much acceptance within both Korea's and Japan's citizens the resistance was still greater and more importantly neither government wanted to show weakness or even admit defeat. The situation grew tense before news of the Esperanza arrived on Earth.
Within an instance, all eyes were fixed on the sky and political talks shifted towards more international affairs fairly quickly, albeit the Korean and Japanese delegations in the upper most political sphere of the Japanese Alliance still hold fierce debates about a common currency - for now away from the public eye.
