Repairing fighters?
« on: November 13, 2013, 02:19:50 PM »
So, I finally learned how to repair ships. :) Now, I have a lot of fighters breaking down, and they have no maintenance supplies. I can't repair them at a shipyard. How do I repair them? Do they need to be assigned to a carrier or other mothership? At the moment, they're just orbiting my homeworld, and cluttering up my event list with "Fighter Audacious #18 has suffered an equipment failure..." messages.

Build some orbital dock or carrier for them and dock them inside to repair your fighters. If you just want to store them, you can build a PDC with hangar.

I don't know if you are aware of this, but fighters have to be in a hanger bay to keep from running up their maintenance.  Having them in orbit of a planet with a maintenance facility will not help them at all.  You can store them in a pdc, but will not be able to repair them there.  If you have an orbital base/carrier they can be repaired if there is enough maintenance supplies on board.

Yeah, I built my fighters before researching hanger technology. I may need to design my first carrier quick. orbit is getting cluttered with fighter bits.

Boat bay, although less efficient can do the trick... You can rotate them by squadron of 12 in and out of a 3000 tons capacity orbital facility for example.

Well, I've built a PDC that contains a bunch of hangers, and this lets me overhaul, but I still can figure out how to repair them when they have no maintenance bays/supplies. I can't repair them individually as ships, and I can't seem to find a way to get the PDC to repair them. What am I missing?

You need orbital base or carrier to repair fighters, PDC is only for storage.
