I'm here because I'm a lurker, I haven't caught up with the game yet though.

A lurker here!

Sorry if the question seems inane, but since I lack experience with forums games of this type, is there some specific thread where one could follow the turn-to-turn progression of the game up until this point, or will i have to try to shift through the myriad of threads here and try to get it in chronologically correct order?

Cheers!

There is no summary unfortunately, the RP and UN threads are probably the best ones for some idea how things happened chronologically.

I could try to run a summary per thread if lurkers want it...

As a note, since there is ongoing combat, there will be a major World Press News event.

Was asked a question from a fan.   :)

Quote
Q: What language has the FSA adopted for official use? Obviously, such a large alliance between various nations from different parts of the globe - who natively speak different languages - has to have a common language to cooperate effectively. This is doubly important when it comes to training crew and officers, since they must coordinate and work side by side.

It depends on the were you are at in the FSA government.

Elected officials (MPs and Senate) Can speak Afrikaans, Arabic, English, German, Farsi, Portuguese, and Zulu.

The FSA Navy uses Simplified English as it standard language.  Due to the need of pilot training requiring English.
The FSA Army is more old fashioned, and has two languages - The Southern Command (Africa) uses Afrikaans, the Northern command (Middle East) uses Farsi.

Quote
Considering how important it should be to the FSA to advocate unity (considering their differences), I would think that they could not afford to pick the official language of a constituent nation as it would imply favoritism and encourage a sense of elitism.

The FSA hides it's warts well, but it a quasi-Fascist alliance between mostly white African's holding old colonies  and Iranians controlling the Shia Crescent.  There was no "Winds of change" in this history.

Quote
The only logical solution, as I see it, would be to adopt Esperanto as it is an engineered language not part of any nation. They would need to make Esperanto a mandatory part of cadet training (and probably a cultural sensitivity training course, too). I suspect key FSA politicians would also need to learn the official language, too. Fortunately, I hear that it is designed to be easy to learn and it is very similar to the romance languages.

Esperanto estas pli facile lernebla tiam plej lingvoj , sed ankora? ne estas facile lernebla .

Esperanto is easier to learn then most languages, but it still not easy to learn.

BTW: I'd post this as a reply to your RP thread topic. However, I'm not sure how to write this as an in-character official media response.

May I suggest that your RP thread adopt a habit of enclosing all media responses in quotes? That way, fans could respond or ask questions without confusing readers as to what is being roleplayed and what isn't?

Not a bad idea.  Also they can feel free to ask in this thread.

Attached is what the admin views as the world map.

Green is FSA (Lighter green is FSA friendly nations but not part of the FSA)
Red is Russia (pink is Russian aligned nations)
Blue is NAU (and light blue NAU aligned nations)
Brown is EU.
Dark Grey is the Non-aligned movement

Looks obvious to me what happened. The EU cancelled the exception for snus.

Does the NAU have any legitimate cause to do so?

Sicily has little love for NATO. I suspect sentiment would be similar in our game-verse.

I guess NATO doesn't exist in our game-verse anymore. Also, a few hundred people protesting exercise isn't the same as broad anti-NATO sentiment. Wouldn't even be news outside of RT. Plus, we totally have to protect local English-speaker from the foreign fascists of Rome you know.

So, there are three main superpowers:
And then there's the Red Duncanites, a mysterious group of space pirates and terrarists.

In addition, it sounds like the European Union may have recently acquired spacefaring ships and/or TN technology, possibly making it a sort of minor power. Correct?

I was wondering what flags each of these groups would use.

I wouldn't be too surprised if the Russian Confederation team (player?) uses the familiar hammer and sickle flag of the old Soviet Union. But are they truly Communist all over again? (The Communist Party was banned in 1991 by then-President Boris Yeltsin.) And this post by AL (http://aurora2.pentarch.org/index.php?topic=8514.msg89896#msg89896) proclaimed that this was the start of a new age for them:
Quote
The dawn of a new age is upon us, comrades!
So, perhaps they'd want to emphasize this by adopting a different flag (in traditional colors and symbolism)?

I suppose the European Union may still be using the Flag of Europe (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Europe). However, it sounds like this is some alternate history. And since this is about 84 years hence, they may have experienced some turmoil (such as Great Britain, Denmark and Sweden leaving), possibly leading to a change of flag. Maybe they'd use one of the rejected EU flag proposals (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Europe#Creation)? Or maybe something similar to the old Flag of the Western European Union (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_the_Western_European_Union) (minus the letters on the bottom)?

I bring this up because I find flags interesting and I think it would be fun to try to design flags for these groups.

It wouldn't be too hard to combine elements from the flags of Canada, Mexico and the United States. (Obviously, the maple leaf has to be there, somewhere.)

Though, making a flag for the FSA would be a real challenge without some ideas of what it represents or some ideal or symbols or something. I realize that it represents southern African and parts of the Middle East. But besides that?

BTW: I was surprised that China and/or India hasn't tried to get into this space race. They're the two most populous nations, each with over a billion. However, they are certainly not the wealthiest, with a GDP (PPP) ranking below many other countries. And their population is predicted to stagnate, while most other nations grow.

Edit:

Aw, heck... I can't resist making up a flag for the NAU.

Here's my first version:
And here's a 215 x 175 px resize for use in-game:
(BTW: I have .SVG's if anyone wants to resize to any size desired.)

Here's a "simplified version". I removed the white stripes and changed the gold stars to green:
Again, here's a 215 x 175 px resize for use in-game:
(I also have .SVG's of these, if anyone wants to resize them.)

Symbolism:
This NAU flag is further symbolized by how the Canadian symbolism is located at the upper right, representing the North and how the Mexican symbolism is at the lower left, representing the South.

Also, the flags of all three countries use red and white. The red of all three flags is shared as a narrow stripe between them. And they also share wide stripes of white, the color representing unity. The sharing, itself, is also sign of unity. (BTW: While each flag uses a different shade of red, the color red that I used is from the US flag.)

The simplified version I did merely because some may complain that complexity can be too distracting. Adding a fifth color (golden yellow) adds complexity, as does the extra white stripes.

Took me a while to come up with what a FSA flag would look like.

The Orange stripe is common on South African flags.
The block of the flag is based on the Iranian flag.
Then the three symbols are Lebanon, South Africa (before 1994), and Iran.

The FSA  roundel is based off Rhodesia.

I may add china/india as NPC powers,  but I am reserving them for later, perhaps as minor powers who are a generation of technology behind everyone.

That's definitely a fine flag and I'm sure you're satisfied with it.

Back in September when I created that flag for NAU, I had also played around with a flag for the Russian Confederation.

I like your flag better. But, merely because I had these lying around, I thought I'd at least show what I made:

The color scheme is based on the old Flag of the Russian SFSR and the Russian Federation. (I thought that the blue of the current Russian flag made it too similar to the red, white and blue of other countries.) The star burst in the last flag is straight from the Russian "Flag of Ministry of Emergency Situations."

Currently, I'm working on a flag pack, which I will eventually share in Graphics Packs (http://aurora2.pentarch.org/index.php?board=227.0). And I'll probably include some of these.

For the Lurkers

a fleet of Run Duncinate ( a terror group) ships was able to sneak into 10 million KMs of earth.   They just went active on their sensors.
