While the new year started off slowly in the wake of the growing gulf between the Commonwealth and the Republic, each being less than eager to make any actions that could be seen as provocative, life didn't come to a halt in the Solar System. By the first of March, a civilian cooperative had despatched mining complexes and the attendant staff to Mercury, and within days the Commonwealth Council had unanimously voted to purchase all minerals the small operation had begun to gather.

The notion of small-scale civilian operations went out swiftly however, as the Kurogasai subsidiary Yanagita Interstellar Colony Ltd launched a thirty-seven thousand-plus ton colony ship, with capacity for a hundred thousand colonists in early April. While the sheer size of the vessel rendered it easily visible to both Earth and Mars, the militaries of those two worlds relaxed their stance, assuming that Kurogasai would never choose for their first armed mobile craft to be a behemoth so easily detected, and reassured by the fact it remained in Callisto's orbit.

It took until early October for any significant developments to occur, and Yanagita cemented their record-breaking existence by launching a sixty-three thousand-plus ton freighter, which promptly began to convey goods from Io to Callisto and vice-versa. At the same time, the Nicomachean Republic trained an additional pair of Garrison Battalions, bringing them to nine battalions in an effort to combat growing discontent amongst the populace. Soon after, the Commonwealth made their own record as a minor corporation founded a second civilian mining colony on the Swift-Tuttle asteroid, and once more the Council voted to purchase the resources it gathers.

By mid-October, the Commonwealth built their twenty-fifth research facility, and just a few weeks later, the Commonwealth shipping line Fontan Marine shattered Yanagita Ltd's record by launching a hundred and eighty-one thousand-plus ton freighter, soon setting it to work servicing the Earth-Luna route. For the remainder of the year, events began to calm down, with the small exception of the despatch of an embassy to the Kurogasai Corporation by the Nicomachean Republic.

Much as with the previous year, 2051 started off quietly. Early February saw the training and equipment of a new Mobile Infantry Battalion for the Nicomachean Republic, bringing them to ten battalions in total. Shortly afterwards in mid-March that the Commonwealth built their twenty-sixth research facility, and the new facility's work was quickly celebrated when lead researcher Anita Fantasia and her team completed research into Thermal Sensor Sensitivity 6 by early April.

Not content to be outdone by the Commonwealth, Kurogasai scientist Kate Yukikiyo completed their own research, this time into EM Sensor Sensitivity 6 on the fifth of May. This achievement was swiftly followed up by late May as the research team of Kasai Chiaki completed research into Particle Beam 100,00km, allowing the Corporation the ability to extend the range of their Tatsumaki-class platforms by sixty-six percent.

In early July, Fontan Marine follows up their launch of the largest ship to date by launching a sub-fifty thousand ton colonist ship, but for the lack of any government contracts, the ship remained in orbit of Earth. In the meantime, a team led by Val Ferreira completed their own research into Jump Drive Efficiency 4, leading the Commonwealth one step closer to making a viable FTL engine.

By late July, the Commonwealth's material superiority was hammered home as a second shipping line, known as Jin Colony Line, was founded by by a new start-up company. Just a few days later, the Commonwealth researched a new improvement that gave them a five-percent saving in both time and costs when altering shipyards.

By the first of August, the new company had showed their willingness to rival others by launching a hundred and sixty-one thousand-plus ton freighter, as well as a smaller sixty-thousand ton-plus freighter. Both of these were quickly set to work conveying goods on the Earth-Luna route in an effort to outdo Fontan Marine's grip.

By early September the private sector began to get more crowded when Kurogasai Corporation launched a subsidiary, Tadeshi Services. By late March, the Commonwealth and Republic's technological race stepped up a pace as the Nicomachean researcher Celina Escobar Ruelas completed research into Planetary Sensor Strength 300. In the meantime, a team led by Carmelo Enlow researched Active Grav Sensor Strength 12, while another team led by Lloyd Costigan researches Missile Launcher Reload Rate 2.

On the first of October, Jin Colony Line continued their efforts to outdo Fontan Marine by launching another freighter, this one a thirty-two thousand-plus ton model. By mid-October, the Republic's researchers got a step closer to the output of their Commonwealth rivals as chief researcher Jesus Feliciano Leyva completed their own research into Active Grav Sensor Strength 12.

For the remainder of the year, developments lessened with the only exceptions being the development of the new M2A Missile Launcher by Lloyd Costigan's team, intended for a successor to the Turkmenistan-class with a firing cycle twice as fast as its predecessor in early November, while early-mid December sees Fontan Marine try to bolster their faltering portfolio by building a second sub-fifty thousand ton colony ship, but as with its predecessor, this one too sits in Earth orbit.
