VB6 Aurora > Installation
Error 339 Crashes with Portable and Normal versions
RevReese:
I am having a problem running the game.
Upon installing the portable version correctly and running using the wrapper, the game interface loads, sadly i get this error followed by a CTD when I click ok:
"Run-time error 339: Component COMCTL32. OCX or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid"
There are other 339 errors if I click on a different menu, some of them load up fine, others bring up the error (though occasionally it's a different . OCX file).
I tried reinstalling a number of times, running as Admin, even dropping the . OCX files into my System32 folder but still the same error.
I have also installed and updated the normal way previously with the same errors (though I made sure to uninstall it before installing this version).
Can anyone help me out, I have been watching so many tutorials and LP's of this and really want to play it!.
I am running Windows 7 64 bit.
Thank you for your time!.

Anyone else have the same issue? and if so how did you get around it? ???
I tried registering the file using the regsvr32 command after placing it in the system32 folder but although it successfully registers it, the crash still happens with the same message that a file is invalid or missing).

Try registering them in the game folder.

if that doesn't work you can try installing http://www.pcwintech.com/simple-shutdown-timer and then uninstalling it.
if none of that works you're pretty much SOL, though i can't understand why it wouldn't.

Thank you both for the quick replies! :)

I unregistered comctl32. ocx and comdlg32. ocx (using the /u switch) inside the game directory which were giving me the 339 errors.
Upon loading the game I accessed every screen and they all seem to work without errors!.
I didn't seem to need to re-register them either!, I will do some more testing to make sure everything is working properly and will update this thread if necessary.
But for now, I can finally dive into this game! 8)

I did download this but didn't need it in the end.
Thanks again to you both!
