My survey ship found the following on Mercury:
    Duranium 1,219,297 (0.6)
    Boronide 2,752,945 (0.9)
    Sorium 2,672,571 (1)
    Gallicite 262,554 (0.5) .

As I understand it, an asteroid mining ship only works on asteroids and would not work on Mercury.  Is this correct?
I think not.  My recollection is that an asteriod mining module is an automated mine in space.  Here's a pointer to a thread I found by searching for "asteroid mining module": viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1079&p=8647&hilit=+asteroid+mining+module#p8647

As I understand it, the Sorium can be refined into fuel.  Does a harvester only work on gas giants?  Or could I send a harvester to Mercury?
Yes.  No.  The way to refine sorium obtained by normal mines (i.e. from Mercury) is with Fuel Refineries.

Let's say I build automated mines and a mass driver for Mercury.  Let's say the automated mine is built before the freighter is built.  Would the automated mine be working on Earth before I ship it to Mercury?
Yes.

After the colony is mined out, can one move the automated mines and mass driver somewhere else?  Or are these sunk costs?
Yes.  No.

John

EDIT:  Ok, so now it's Erik and me :-)  Btw, his 2nd answer to 2 is more technically correct than mine - as he says, you can send it there but it won't do anything.
