My recollection is that there's some sort of random roll involved.  If you search Steve's posts for interrogations you can probably find the thread where he discusses it.  (IIRC, I had asked the same question :) ).  I think it was 2-3 years ago...

I think John's got the right number. That one popped in my head too. I also believe officers give more points than basic crew.

Be aware that it takes a lot of interrogation points (~1000?) to get a result, so it's easy to think nothing's happening.

I can't think of anything Steve's done recently that would have broken this.

I have picked up life pods of probably a 50 or so different wrecks from 3 NPC's no useful data is ever gained.  Has anyone in 6.21 had one of these be successful?
