I've found that 1920 x 1080 doesn't work well on Windows 8.   The inside of the window requires 1024 pixels of vertical height.   When you factor in the top and bottom window frames, 1080 pixels isn't enough using default settings.

Reduced height windows is under  'game parameters' which will allow you to play at 800 high res
there's a couple of things in the ship design window that are missing however, such as cargo load time. (which you can see on 900 res if you don't use the reduced height mode)
still, is there another place this is shown? I've not found it yet if there is.

The tutorial (hxxp: aurora2. pentarch. org/index. php/topic,1860. 0. html) notes that you may have to change your resolution to make the game work, but I'm already running in 1600x900 and I still can't see the bottom of most of the windows.  Any suggestions?

The minimum resolution is 1280x1024. If you are on WinXP, you can extend your resolution past your monitor and then "slide" around. Otherwise you can try the reduced height windows or one of the desktop resizer solutions.
