Ok this topic can be elimitated Erik...I am blind, just looked and there is a message "this design includes a fighter only component"  ....I was expecting something more obvious...
Question definitively answered...

It's not. Just as the name implies, it has to be added to a design the game classes as being a fighter. Say the fighter's 475 tons, the modules 50 tons. Once it's on it's gone past that 500 ton limit for fighters and is an FAC, so it can't use it.

Yes, but is a fighter only fire control supposed to be available to a FAC or not?

Fighters are <=500 tonnes, and I would have assumed that once the mass exceeded 500 tonnes I should have gotten an error message that the fire control could no longer be used.  The Fighter x4 tracking speed bonus is a huge bonus after all.  I could apply the x0.5 tracking speed modifier and really reduce the size of the fire control:  if it is legit to use it on a FAC.

I have designed a "Fighter Only" fire control system and when I was building my FAC prototype I used it then never got a message saying it was no longer applicable once the mass of the FAC exceeded 500 tonnes.  Is this an error?  Are fighter only fire controls supposed to be available for FACs?  The FAC in question is 700 tonnes and may go to 750 tonnes before it is built.  I am considering just developing a new one which is better suited to the performance of the FAC anyway but I'm curious how this is supposed to work.
FAC are > 500 < 1000
