Which version are you playing? I thought genetic modification wasn't working.
been taking a break so i didnt see this
current genetic modification "works"
it doesnt stop when you ask it to is the issue so you can just ship the center to a planet with no pop when youre done

The construct has been fully surveyed and excavated. It is a Sapient Machine Core with vast databases of knowledge. The section on energy weapons is fully intact, and we will need to move people over to study new energy weapons. This will be a huge help to the UEF in their efforts to keep aliens at bay while expanding the empire.

Another fleet of warships has been ordered for construction: 4 Reds, 4 Alexandrias, 3 Jaffas, and 2 Geminis. They will be complete by August 2083. One of the carriers will go to the first fleet, and the rest will make up a new fleet.

The Apollo-class Jump Freighters have begun their first 180-day round trip to unload infrastructure on Duval V. The jump point will be stabilized to allow civilian ships to bring colonists there, but the system needs to be ready before they can do that.

It has been decided that the inhabitants of Thengo will undergo genetic modification to speed up the process of making their moons habitable. It should only take a few years for the inhabitants of Little Rose and Lucille to withstand the scorching temperatures of the moons.

We are still uncovering the ruins on Sansibar I and are bringing home autominers, financial centers, and alien artifacts. The artifacts are brought back to Earth for both research and private collectors.

The survey of Sansibar is going very well. Millions of tons of high-accessibility minerals have been found, and more installations have been recovered. We aren't even close to finishing recovering all the ruins on Sansibar I, and II will have similar amounts of installations. We have completed the gravitational survey in Sansibar, and it's a dead-end system, which is a blessing as nobody can sneak into it.

Our second Beta III has been constructed and is heading to find the Tau Ceti aliens, "The Commonwealth of Sokcho." It will have to travel through Mirage territory, so the journey could prove perilous. All repairs to our battle fleet, as well as the refit to our troop transports, have been completed. We will make the journey to Scorpia and clear out the Mirage populations. The overhauls of the ships will be done, and they will be cleared as ready for battle.

We have arrived at the deadly Iabro-Canceron Jump Point and are expecting an ambush. We will resolve this issue today. While our diplomatic ship made it through unscathed, we can't assume the jump point is secure. The UEF Temeraire will jump through alone to draw out any ambushers. If hostiles appear and retreat after engaging her, they will become vulnerable during their jump cooldown. Our main fleet will then focus them down while they are unable to either retreat or return fire.
Fortunately, the jump point proved to be safe. Nonetheless, caution was warranted. We will now proceed to Scorpia, where we aim to destroy the remnants of their fleet and secure their planets.

Our Betas still have not been able to establish contact with the Commonwealth or the Marilith. We did, however, detect a Mirage ship in Tau Ceti and need to flee with haste, as their laser boats are quite powerful at close range.

While scouting ahead for the fleet, the UEF Temeraire encountered 5 Mirage military vessels and sunk them but did take a small amount of armor damage doing so.

The second Beta III constructed, the UEF Gracious, escaped the Mirage ship and headed to Codalus, which is a known Commonwealth system. The Gracious encountered a new species of alien. If they don't immediately shoot at us, we will attempt to make contact.

August 7, 2081
The new aliens didn't shoot at us but did leave, so we haven't decoded their language yet. The Gracious will head to the Niven jump point, where we found so many of them last time.

Nearly to Scorpia I to drop off our troops, we picked up a lone freighter on our sensors. At this point, we know they never leave a ship unescorted, so we will break a few off to investigate. The ship was actually alone, with no escorts, and the UEF Adroit (Red II) sunk her with railgun fire.

August 27, 2081
Our troops have been dropped from orbit onto Sansibar I. The battle will begin in earnest tomorrow, and so far, it looks like they have over 10,000 infantry, plus every support you can think of.

With the assistance of our Jaffas and Reds bombarding the troops from orbit, we are making great progress on the invasion of Scorpia I. For every 300 infantry and countless tanks they lose, we are only losing 10-15 infantry and a cannon every once in a while.

The battle on the ground rages on. We have lost a great number of Wardens (our genetically enhanced infantry units), as well as most of our hammerstrike cannons, but our ultra-heavy anti-personnel (Dominators) and ultra-heavy anti-vehicle (Thunderclads) units remain untouched by their thousands. We also detected 6 Commonwealth ships today. Hopefully, one of them will stay with us to communicate or at least send an ambassador.

We appear to have finally received an ambassador from the Commonwealth. We will hang out on the Niven-Codalus jump point as long as they are willing to talk to us. The invasion of Scorpia I should conclude soon, and we can take the planet for our own.

The system of Seldon has been discovered, and the 4th planet from its star has a breathable atmosphere, but the planet is much too cold. While this may be a homeworld for another alien race, we are disappointed that we have yet to find a perfectly habitable planet.

The invasion of Sansibar I is concluded. There was no alien population on the planet, and all that is left after the ground invasion and orbital bombardment is 33 autominers. The Apollo jump freighters will bring them where they need to be.

The Commonwealth continually asks us to leave whatever system we wait for an ambassador in. The last one stayed with us for about a day before leaving, and now we've been asked to leave a 3rd system. Caprica is most likely neutral ground, and we will wait there, hoping to receive an ambassador. We still haven't been able to find one for the Marilith either.

On the way home from Scorpia, we encountered a single ship, the Duval County-class. We know they have fire control jammers but have not observed any weapons on them. The Apollo-class Jump Freighters that found it will follow at 5m km while the battle fleet catches up. The troop transports have been detached so they can make their way to the jump point on their own while the battle fleet blazes along at 7500 km/s to catch the ship and destroy it. The Duval was destroyed, and King George has cleared the jump point as safe. Once the troop transports catch up, we will continue home.

We've had engine failures on both the King George and the Temeraire. They provided orbital bombardment support for so long that there aren't enough maintenance supplies to repair the engine en route. While escorting the troop transports, ⅔ engine power is still faster than the fleet can travel, but it's a long road home.

The commander of the Red II-class UEF Albany has announced that this is his final expedition with the UEF Flotilla. Lord-Captain Dmitriy Solovyov has been with his Albany since it launched, and it pains him to do this, but his medical condition is forcing his hand. He would never want to put his crew in danger.

Our fleet has run out of fuel and is stranded in the Sagan System. To resolve this, fuel harvesters are being dispatched to refuel the fleet. This incident highlights the need for fuel harvesters to be stationed in systems beyond Sol, enabling refueling at strategic locations during extended operations.

After weeks of logistical effort, our fuel harvesters have returned to their posts, and the fleet is now home in Sol for overhauls and repairs. This experience underscores the need for greater operational range in future endeavors. Plans are being made for a retaliatory strike against the Precursors in Aerelon, a long-overdue response to the tragedy that occurred there.

The Oasis II-class frigates have completed their refits and are stationed in orbit around Little Rose, awaiting deployment. A Zambonga vessel was detected during this time, providing an ideal opportunity to test the newly equipped ships in combat.
The engagement revealed a technological disparity; the Zambonga vessel's nuclear pulse engines were decades behind our capabilities. The Oasis II-class frigates quickly destroyed the target with precision. Their upgraded particle beams proved highly effective, marking the frigates' debut as a resounding success.

The fleet arrives at Aerelon and detects enemy activity near the wreckage. A lone Deathskull-class Precursor vessel is identified. Shortly after, three more Deathskulls and an additional fleet of 20 ships were picked up on sensors. These include two Decimators, two Ruinations, and six Desecrations.
The battle begins with the fleet advancing cautiously. Precursor missiles target our Alexandrias, with the UEF Warspite and UEF Spartiate taking heavy damage. Despite our efforts to counter, the Warspite is destroyed, and the Spartiate is lost with significant casualties. The fleet is forced to retreat, with surviving crew members rescued where possible.
The engagement demonstrates the limitations of our current fleet configuration. Long-range missile capabilities and enhanced point defense systems are urgently needed before we can mount another offensive.

March 25, 2080 – The Massacre at Sagittaron
Initial Contact:
100 million kilometers from the comet, sensors picked up a large cluster of enemy ships: 13 freighters, each 84,000 tons, escorted by 2 smaller warships, 9,000 tons each. As we closed, more vessels began to appear. By the time we reached striking distance, the enemy force had swelled to 42 escorts, 13 freighters, and 5 unknown ships around 20,000 tons—likely additional warships.
It’s clear they weren’t expecting us, but the sheer number of ships suggests a larger purpose—possibly an evacuation effort. Those freighters alone could carry vast amounts of infrastructure, and if this fleet managed to escape, it would prolong their ability to resist.
Our orders were clear: strike hard, cripple their fleet, and disrupt whatever operation this was.


First Volley:
We opened with four waves of Sparrow MK IV missiles, targeting the freighters. These new missiles, equipped with retargeting capability, proved their worth:
5 freighters destroyed outright,
1 escort obliterated,
1 additional freighter left adrift, waiting to be finished off.
This was a devastating opening blow, but it drew the attention of their escorts, which began converging on our position.

Engagement in Earnest:
Their escorts, numbering over 40, charged at us. As expected, their ships relied heavily on lasers. At range, we held the advantage, using our long-range missiles and superior targeting systems to pick them off. Seven enemy warships fell before we moved in closer with the Jaffas and Reds, who engaged with lasers and railguns.
However, their numbers were starting to tell. We could only hold range for so long.

Losses and Sacrifices:
The UEF Caesar, our flagship, bore the brunt of their attacks. Her armor was shredded, forcing her to break off from the formation. Meanwhile, disaster struck: the UEF Abdiel, one of our oldest and most storied Alexandria-class cruisers, simply vanished. No wreckage. No lifepods. One moment she was in the fight; the next, she was gone.
The loss of Abdiel is a wound we’ll carry for a long time. She was here during the January Raids, the Battle for Sansibar, and countless battles in between. Her disappearance remains a mystery.

Heroism in the Void:
Despite heavy damage, Commander Bryan Graffeo of the UEF Caesar refused to retreat completely. Spotting an enemy ship slipping past the formation, he turned Caesar around and gave chase. Against all odds, his pursuit paid off, neutralizing the target before it could escape. For his courage under fire, Graffeo has been awarded the first “Order of the Void” medal.


Enemy Routed:
With their forces split, we managed to bring down the rest of the escorts and their freighters. The final blow came when a commercial vessel, assumed to be a freighter, surrendered. Upon inspection, it was found to be a slow orbital miner with no jump drive. It was scuttled.
Even as we regrouped, smaller enemy forces continued to harass us. We encountered 6 more orbital miners and 3 escorts, which were quickly dispatched. These skirmishes, while minor, add up. Every ship we destroy weakens their ability to fight and rebuild.

Aftermath:
We’ve dealt a heavy blow, but it came at a cost.
UEF Caesar[/i and UEF King George are barely holding together, their armor riddled with holes.
The fleet is out of anti-ship and anti-missile ordnance—a dangerous position if we encounter more resistance.
The disappearance of the Abdiel leaves a hole in our formation and our hearts.
For now, we head home to resupply and repair. The enemy has been hurt, but 25 ships remain unengaged in this system, a sobering reminder that this war is far from over.

The fleet has departed the Sagittaron System victorious. Including commercial orbital miners, a total of 2.43 million tons of Mirage Coalition ships have been destroyed, with no losses on our side. The upgraded Jaffas and Reds demonstrated their power, dispatching numerous enemy ships after the Alexandrias ran out of missiles.

April 1, 2080
Halfway home in the Iabro system, our Battle Fleet was ambushed by Mirage forces. The UEF Caesar suffered a devastating alpha strike from four laser boats. The strike overwhelmed its shields, penetrated the armor, killed 31 crew members, and damaged several components.


April 17, 2080
The fleet returned home without further encounters. The UEF Caesar and UEF King George require significant repairs, as does the Red II B-class UEF Adroit, which sustained minor damage early in the battle but continued fighting effectively. Repairs on the UEF Caesar will take until August due to the extensive damage. Bryan Graffeo and his crew were welcomed as heroes, and as soon as new missiles are available, the fleet will deploy again. With the destruction of so many Mirage vessels, including their mining fleet, it seems likely their mineral resources are running low. During the voyage, faster reloading mechanisms for missile launchers were developed, prompting upgrades for the Alexandria and Anaconda classes. The disappearance of the UEF Abdiel remains a mystery, with no wreckage or communications to explain its loss.

The autopsy of the Precursor machine confirmed its ability to withstand extreme pressure, gravity, and temperatures. Its origins and purpose remain unknown, though it is presumed to be ancient. Meanwhile, the captured Mirage vessel Fisher County returned to Earth for dismantling.

Efforts to help Mars achieve self-sufficiency are underway. Construction factories and minerals have been delivered to enable local production. Mars has its own naval university, producing a steady flow of graduates. Two captains from Mars University served in both the Battle of Sansibar and the Massacre at Sagittaron, and a graduate from Little Rose served as XO on the Jaffa-class UEF Temeraire. Terraforming projects on Mars, Little Rose, and Lucille are progressing well.

Sansibar II has been surveyed, revealing an incredible wealth of minerals at decent accessibility. This system could support a self-sufficient colony and explains why the Precursors guarded it. The fleet engaged six Mirage laser ships, including two Cochran County-class vessels. The Reds claimed four of the kills, while Annette Walther aboard the UEF Temeraire secured two.

Arriving in the Scorpia System, the fleet began surveying planets for Mirage presence. On approach to Scorpia III, 28 large, slow-moving ships were detected. These 80,000-ton vessels, moving at just 250 km/s, appear to be terraformers and are targeted for destruction.

November 16, 2080
The fleet identified 13 escorts among the 32 large terraformers in the Scorpia system. The Alexandrias depleted their missile magazines, successfully taking down three Cochrans and damaging two more. After a prolonged battle, all 13 escorts were destroyed, clearing the way to engage the terraformers.
Of the 32 terraformers, two surrendered without resistance. Their lack of jump capability revealed they had been constructed locally, further confirming the instability of Mirage supply lines. The destruction of this fleet represents a severe blow to Mirage's ability to maintain or expand their presence in the system.

They were destroyed, though the UEF Caesar sustained further armor damage after closing in too quickly. A potential jump point ambush on the return trip raises concerns for the Caesar’s safety.

The Mirage forces lay in ambush at the Iabro-Canceron jump point. Their opening alpha strike was devastating, with the UEF Caesar bearing the brunt of the assault. Her engines and most of her critical components were heavily damaged, leaving her vulnerable. However, Mirage’s fear of further losses in this campaign led them to retreat rather than press their advantage.
The Battle Fleet remained with the crippled Caesar, buying time for emergency repairs. If Mirage forces return, the Caesar’s shields will have recharged, and the fleet will exploit the Mirage weapons’ recalibration delay to strike back decisively.
The cost of this attack was steep—194 of our people lost—but Mirage's fleeting vengeance is hollow compared to the devastation we’ve wrought on their forces over the past months. The UEF Caesar may be battered, but she is far from broken.

The fleet continues its slow journey home, focusing on repairing the Caesar’s engines. On Sansibar I, xenoarchaeologists have deciphered the language of the ancient Jerico civilization. Their findings include 36 installations suitable for transport and a stockpile of 4.6 million liters of fuel. Production of the Mk IV has been fast-tracked with President Joe Miga’s approval.
While on station near the Cadmus jump point, the last Zambonga ship entered the Thengo System. The UEF Caesar intercepted and destroyed the vessel with a single railgun shot, marking the fleet’s continued vigilance in protecting UEF territories.

The Deathslayer that evaded us previously is in orbit of Sansibar II, where we last fought. It appears to be alone. We will move closer to confirm and launch a single salvo.
The Deathslayer is too small for the Alexandria-class cruiser’s sensors to lock onto accurately, so we’ll need to close the distance to fire. It has begun firing missiles at us, targeting Abdiel specifically. It seems to be retreating toward Sansibar I—or leading us into a potential ambush there.
Our angle of pursuit allowed us to close to 2.4 million kilometers, but that wasn’t close enough for our anti-missile missiles to engage. Knowing from prior encounters that those missiles are ineffective against Deathslayers, we will follow it to Sansibar I to investigate further.

As we approach Sansibar I, our sensors detect no large ships in orbit. However, Sansibar I does have surface-to-orbit defenses, evident from the debris of our Shianzpla III still floating in orbit after two decades.
The Deathslayer has entered orbit of Sansibar I and awaits us. The Jaffa-class battlecruisers have been given the green light to engage, as they have yet to record any kills. UEF King George successfully destroyed the last of the Deathslayer-class FACs. Efforts will now shift to neutralizing the ground-based STOs on both planets.
First Company will deploy from Mars to Sansibar I, while the fleet focuses on eliminating ground forces on Sansibar II. The planet is clear of STOs, and troop transports will arrive within 10 days to test our green troops.

A Zambonga ship has appeared in the Thengo System, but our main fleet is too far away to intercept it in time. The Oasis-class frigates stationed at Little Rose, intended primarily for citizen morale, will attempt to intercept the intruder. These frigates are extremely outdated, armed with 10 year old particle beams and 20 year old gauss turrets. However, the Oasis II-class refit is already planned, featuring updated weaponry with increased range and efficiency.
The Hyderabad-class ship, identified at 12,000 tons, is 2,000 km/s slower than our frigates and began fleeing as soon as we mobilized. Although it has a military engine signature, it has not returned fire.
After a prolonged chase and exchanges at close range, the UEF Andromeda claimed the kill, obliterating the larger Hyderabad-class vessel with its outdated cannons and particle beams. The frigates will return to Earth for well-deserved refits.

Adding to the intrigue, sensors detect the wreckage of an enormous vessel, approximately 110,000 tons in displacement. The ship’s design is unfamiliar, bearing no resemblance to any known alien factions encountered by humanity thus far. Its ruined state suggests a violent end, possibly from combat or the system’s harsh gravitational forces.

The discovery raises more questions than answers: Who built this colossal vessel, and what brought it to such a catastrophic fate? The Beta II crew marks the site for closer investigation, though caution will be paramount given the black hole’s perilous pull.

 A third stabilized jump point is discovered in Codalus. Beta II B 001 will investigate, while a gravitational survey vessel begins probing Niven for additional stabilized points.

November 15, 2075
 The stabilized jump point in Codalus leads to the Lassa system, a small, planetless region. A survey vessel will investigate further for potential connections.

 The diplomatic vessel UEF Harmony and the gravitational survey ship UEF Pathfinder entered the Orphicon System, tasked with surveying its jump points and celestial bodies. While scanning the inner system, their sensors picked up an anomaly: a massive, slow-moving object. Closer analysis revealed it to be a freighter of alien origin, distinct from anything encountered before.
 The discovery brought operations to a halt. Crews aboard both ships stared at their screens in awe, realizing the implications of their find. For the first time, humanity had encountered a spacefaring civilization that didn’t immediately raise weapons or remain frustratingly silent like the Tau Ceti aliens. Unlike the hostile forces encountered before, this was the first time humanity's presence wasn’t met with aggression or indifference.
 As the freighter continued its journey, diplomatic protocols were activated. The UEF Harmony transmitted standardized first-contact greetings in multiple forms: mathematical sequences, cultural references, and encoded star maps showing Earth’s position. Hours passed with no response. Then, just as hope began to wane, the alien vessel transmitted an encoded reply. Its cadence and structure suggested an intentional communication effort rather than an automated response or warning.
 Back on Earth, the UEF government and the scientific community erupted with excitement. Experts worked around the clock to decipher the alien transmission, while the Harmony and Pathfinder shadowed the freighter at a safe distance. Every precaution was taken to avoid any appearance of hostility, ensuring the alien crew felt no threat from humanity's presence.
 This encounter marked a turning point for the United Earth Federation. After years of costly and devastating conflicts with the Sansibar aliens and the Mirage Coalition, and prolonged uncertainty regarding the Tau Ceti aliens, this event offered hope. For the first time, humanity glimpsed the possibility of peaceful coexistence—and perhaps even collaboration—with an alien civilization.

July 29, 2076
 Over seven months of painstaking work had passed since first contact in Orphicon. Linguistic teams on Earth and aboard the UEF Harmony had pieced together fragments of the alien language, aided by repeated transmissions and reciprocal exchanges of information. Finally, on this day, a breakthrough was achieved.
 The aliens identified themselves as the Marilith Empire, a sovereign interstellar civilization. Their message, once translated, conveyed a cautious but unmistakable tone of cooperation. While wary of humanity's expansionist tendencies, the Marilith Empire seemed eager to open channels of communication and trade, noting their own interest in rare minerals and advanced technologies.
 The UEF’s diplomatic corps wasted no time. Commodore Victoria Langford, commanding the Harmony, exchanged greetings with her Marilith counterpart—a rare honor in interstellar relations. The discussion touched on mutual goals, shared interests, and the vast unknowns of the galaxy.
 Initial reports from this exchange painted the Marilith as an advanced, hierarchical society with a rigid caste system and a focus on efficiency. Their freighter’s presence in Orphicon was part of a trade route, and they seemed keen to ensure humanity’s presence in the system would not disrupt their operations.
 This successful communication marked humanity’s first peaceful interstellar diplomatic exchange, contrasting sharply with the hostilities faced in Sansibar and Scorpia/Sagittaron. The prospect of an alliance with the Marilith Empire offered hope—not just for trade, but also for an ally in the struggles ahead.

The Sansibar Offensive begins. The fleet, now jump capable due to the addition of Broadsword-class Jump Tenders, set course for the system where hostile aliens struck down a UEF Surveyor 20 years prior. Avenging the fallen at Aerelon and securing the habitable planets in Sansibar is paramount.

The Battle of Sansibar: September 4, 2076

Reports indicated four unidentified vessels near the fourth planet in the Sansibar system. Their missile volleys suggested the presence of [/b]enemy cruisers[/b], a logical assumption given the volume of firepower. The fleet—3 Jaffa-class Battlecruisers (including the UEF Caesar and UEF King George), 5 Alexandria-class Light Cruisers, 6 Anaconda-class Missile Defense Destroyers, and 5 Red-class escort Destroyers—adjusted its formation. The Alexandrias prepared for long-range missile strikes, the Anacondas set their defensive systems to full alert, and the Reds flanked the fleet to bolster point defense.
Phase One: Sensor Suppression and the Hidden Threat At 25 million kilometers, the Alexandrias fired their first salvo at the sensor-jamming vessel. Within moments, the jamming field collapsed as the ship was reduced to debris. However, the elimination of the jammer revealed a grim surprise: 16 additional vessels, previously hidden. Combined with the original four, 20 Death Slayer-class FACs emerged, their formations tight and aggressive. “What we mistook for cruisers were fast-attack craft,” Bonald muttered. “And now they’ve drawn us in.” The Death Slayers maintained a cautious orbit near Sansibar II, drawing the UEF fleet closer while their missile barrages focused on the UEF King George and UEF Caesar. Despite the overwhelming speed and maneuverability of the FACs, the long-range missiles struck true, destroying several before the enemy could close the distance. Meanwhile, the FACs unleashed another devastating wave of missiles. Their concentrated fire succeeded in overwhelming the UEF King George’s shields. Several projectiles punched through its armored hull, causing structural damage, but the battlecruiser held firm and returned fire with unrelenting resolve. “King George reporting,” came the voice of its captain. “Armor breached, but we’re still in the fight.”
Phase Three: The Wrath of the Fleet As the FACs drew closer, the UEF fleet prepared for railgun and laser engagements. Sensing the danger, the remaining Death Slayers attempted to withdraw. The Alexandrias and Anacondas launched their final salvos, depleting their missile reserves in a desperate bid to neutralize the retreating vessels. One by one, the Death Slayers were annihilated, their evasive maneuvers unable to outpace the fleet's superior firepower. By the end of the engagement, 19 of the 20 FACs were destroyed. The sole survivor escaped into deep space, leaving the battlefield silent except for the faint echoes of victory. Aftermath The fleet regrouped, counting its successes and examining the damage. Despite taking heavy hits, no UEF ships were lost. The UEF King George was damaged but operational, its crew hailed as heroes for their resilience under fire.



On Sansibar II, the wreckage of enemy surface-to-orbit weapons (STOs) and Death Slayers served as a stark reminder of the price of resistance. Commodore Bonald addressed the fleet: “Today, we were tested. Today, we prevailed. Sansibar is ours—not by luck, but by the strength of our unity and the courage of our crews.” The Battle of Sansibar marked another milestone in humanity's relentless expansion, a victory that would inspire generations as the UEF continued its march across the stars.

Yet, something darker lingered over the Federation. Despite this victory, the enigmatic Marilith Empire and other threats had set humanity on a new path: one that might lead to both peace and war.

Despite their best efforts, the alien language remained largely indecipherable.

By October 6, the diplomatic ship had spent nearly 12 months in space, trying to decode the transmissions. Unfortunately, progress had been minimal. The ship was overdue for a major overhaul, so it returned to Earth for essential maintenance and crew shore leave, leaving the Sagittaron Mission in a state of suspended progress. Though the Federation still held hope for eventual success, the inability to understand the aliens in Sagittaron marked a setback in the Federation’s diplomatic efforts.

Terraforming and Industrial Challenges
Back in Sol, the terraforming of Mars continued its slow but steady advancement. Two additional terraforming units were deployed early in the year, focused on warming the planet to improve habitability. By mid-2068, progress was visible on Mars. However, despite the advances in the terraforming process, Mars still faced significant hurdles in its industrial development. The planet's mining infrastructure was lacking, and while terraforming efforts were making Mars more livable, its industrial base could not yet support the growing demands of human expansion. The Federation worked to improve the efficiency of existing systems, but self-sufficiency was still far from reach.
Meanwhile, the moons of Thengo III, Little Rose and Lucille, continued to see rapid development. Little Rose was now capable of supporting 15 million people and Lucille could support 18 million. These moons provided a more immediate solution for human settlement, alleviating some of the pressure on Mars and offering better prospects for colonization.
However, even with these promising developments in the Thengo System, the challenge of scaling up infrastructure to support human expansion across both Mars and the moons remained a daunting task. The Federation’s plans for future colonization were still constrained by the lack of industrial capacity on Mars.

Sensors detected an alien presence—a massive 120,000-ton vessel, likely commercial in nature, accompanied by a smaller military craft. The UEF moved swiftly to engage, intercepting and destroying the larger vessel before it could reach any strategic locations. The ship's design suggested it could have been a colony planter, though its true purpose remains unknown.

However, the operation revealed a troubling vulnerability. While the larger ship was neutralized, the smaller military craft evaded detection, disappearing into the depths of space. This incident exposed the Federation's insufficient sensor technology, sparking urgent discussions about enhancing detection capabilities to safeguard humanity's home system.
The encounter served as a stark reminder that humanity's dominion over Sol was not unchallenged, and vigilance would be essential in the years to come. The UEF currently has no idea where this new alien species could have originated from.

The Oasis-class frigate, a short-range powerhouse armed with a quad gauss turret, particle weaponry, and eight layers of armor, was introduced as a durable defensive unit. Alongside it, the Red-class destroyer was developed as a specialized anti-missile platform akin to the Anaconda but without jump capability. However, the shipyards necessary for these classes were years away from readiness, necessitating the continued use of Anacondas for home defense.

Retooling for fuel harvesters was completed, and production began on two units, expected to finish in a year's time. 

June 22, 2063: 
The historic Shianzpla A Class was officially retired as retooling began for the Shianzpla A IV model. The Shianzpla A 001, humanity's second ship to reach space, was decommissioned after 12 years of service under three captains. 

August 14, 2063:
The relocation of all manned mines to Mars was completed. With Martian infrastructure firmly established, efforts shifted toward developing the Thengo system's habitable moons. The first Theta-class terraforming station, assembled from surplus parts on Earth, was prepared for deployment via an Akron-class tug to begin heating the moons. Once adequately warmed, the moons could support life with minimal infrastructure.

     2064: Milestones in Construction and Diplomacy

January 5, 2064: 
The scrapping of all outdated survey ships was completed, and the first Shianzpla IV units neared production. Simultaneously, the UEF initiated construction of its first Gemini-class carriers, aimed at projecting power across interstellar theaters. Anaconda yards also began retooling for the improved model, and Alexandria yards added a new slipway to meet fleet expansion needs. Research on electronic warfare commenced to enhance the fleet's combat capabilities.

Shipyard expansion and retooling efforts were completed for a new diplomatic ship, projected for launch in one year. The vessel was intended to attempt contact with the hostile aliens responsible for the Catastrophe of Aeleron.

The first Shianzpla B IV was completed, captained by Spencer Justiss, a veteran surveyor. Simultaneously, two additional Alexandria-class light cruisers were ordered. 

June 14, 2064:
Two fuel harvesters, the Abarenda and Abatan, were completed and dispatched to Saturn to begin operations, bolstering humanity’s growing fuel infrastructure. Advances in railgun technology also marked a turning point in fleet design, with launch velocities increased to 40,000 km/s, making railguns a viable and efficient point-defense option. This technological leap prompted a redesign of the Red-class destroyer, transforming it into a dedicated railgun platform.

The updated Red-class no longer mirrored the Anaconda’s anti-missile design but instead emerged as a distinct ship with a battery of eight 12cm railguns. This reconfiguration filled a critical gap in the UEF’s fleet, offering high-speed point defense without reliance on expendable munitions. The new design provided a sustainable solution for protecting the fleet against missile threats, ensuring the Red-class stood as a vital component in the UEF’s defensive strategy.


June 23, 2064:
Terraforming operations began on Thengo Moon 5 (Little Rose) and Thengo Moon 8 (Lucille), the Theta-class stations heating the atmospheres to make these moons habitable.

     2065: Diplomatic Outreach and Expansion

January 7–February 13, 2065: 
Technological strides were made in ground forces development with the completion of heavy powered infantry armor research, followed by the start of cloaking theory studies—expected to take three years to bear fruit. 

March 14, 2065:
The UEF's first diplomatic ship launched on its perilous mission to the Sansibar system. Equipped with a transponder, the ship hoped to signal peaceful intent, though the crew remained acutely aware of the risks. 

April 19–September 2, 2065: 
The diplomatic mission to Sansibar yielded no results despite months of effort. The aliens remained unresponsive, leading the UEF to redirect the diplomatic vessel to Aeleron after a return to Earth for maintenance. Meanwhile, freighter production pivoted to fuel harvesters, and the Thengo moons saw an influx of infrastructure, supporting 9 million people each. 

November–December 2065: 
Electronic warfare research was completed, enhancing fleet capabilities. Back on Luna, infrastructure deliveries allowed for a population of 1 million, while the Thengo moons could now support 16 million residents each. Little Rose had enough jobs to accommodate the growing workforce, but Lucille still required additional mines.

     2066: Military Expansion and Strategic Setbacks

January 8, 2066:
A significant breakthrough in reactor technology introduced the Tokamak reactor, laying the groundwork for the development of **magnetic confinement fusion drives**, which promised greater efficiency. 

April 6, 2066:
Albion and Africa, the first Gemini-Class carriers, were completed, marking a major milestone in fleet development. Despite diplomatic efforts, the aliens continued to ignore communication attempts, forcing the UEF to assume hostility. 

August 27, 2066. 
A tragedy occurred in the Aeleron system when the Shianzpla A IV 004 was destroyed, marking the third survey ship lost to hostile aliens. Captain Jeremiah Gibbson was posthumously criticized for defying UEF orders to avoid the system. 


September 26, 2066: 
The first Anaconda II destroyers rolled out of the shipyards, bolstering the UEF's defensive fleet. At the same time, fuel harvesters successfully completed their first full cargo runs.

     2067: Exploration, Discovery, and First Contact

April 15–September 11, 2067:
Terraforming progressed steadily on the Thengo moons, as temperatures began to drop. In the Canceron system, the Shianzpla B IV 002 discovered a stabilized jump point, leading to the Picon system, a vast star system devoid of habitable planets. A second stabilized jump point was discovered later, leading to Sagittaron, a binary star system with a massive, oxygen-rich terrestrial planet—twice the diameter of Earth but cold and with high gravity. 


October 9–November 29, 2067: 
First contact was made with the Sagittaron aliens, a technologically inferior species based on their ship designs. Though communications were received, they were not immediately understood, marking the first peaceful interaction with an alien civilization. Efforts continued to decipher their language as diplomatic overtures persisted.

2061–2062: A Pivotal Chapter in Humanity’s Expansion

The United Earth Federation (UEF) entered 2061 with unparalleled ambition and a wealth of possibilities. Humanity's reach extended deeper into space, anchored by Mars' thriving industrial base and the promise of the Thengo system. Yet, triumphs came at a cost, as hard lessons were learned through tragedy and innovation alike.

The Rise of Mars and the Jewel of Thengo

Mars flourished as the UEF's industrial cornerstone. By late 2062, its population had soared to 16 million, supported by a robust mining infrastructure that extracted vast quantities of essential minerals. Earth’s manned mines had been entirely relocated to Mars, further enhancing its production capacity. Automated mines, meanwhile, were redeployed to Venus, where the planet’s harsh conditions made human colonization unfeasible but its vast Gallicite deposits were invaluable.

The Thengo system emerged as humanity’s most promising frontier. Both of Thengo III’s habitable moons—Moon 5 and Moon 8—boasted breathable atmospheres and rich mineral deposits capable of supporting billions. By the end of 2062, Moon 5 had a burgeoning population of 1 million, while Moon 8 housed 670,000 colonists, its infrastructure steadily expanding. These twin jewels promised to rival Earth as centers of human civilization.

The Battle for Aerelon: Tragedy Among the Stars

In mid-2061, the UEF faced its darkest hour. A geological survey ship was destroyed in the Aerelon system by an unidentified alien race first encountered in Sansibar years prior. Determined to avenge this loss and gather critical intelligence, the UEF dispatched a fleet consisting of two Alexandria-class light cruisers and three Anaconda-class destroyers.

The fleet arrived in the Aerelon system prepared for a cautious engagement but was swiftly ambushed by the aliens. Initially, the UEF ships engaged three alien vessels that appeared to be vulnerable, as they were only equipped with laser weaponry. For a moment, there was hope that the UEF’s missile salvos would find their mark. However, within minutes, it became painfully clear that the aliens’ point defense systems were far superior to anything humanity had encountered before—every missile launched by the UEF was either intercepted or deflected with ease.

The focus shifted to the aliens' E-war ships, which were lingering around 83 million kilometers away from the battle zone. As the fleet closed in on them, a new threat emerged: 12 previously unidentified ships appeared on the fleet’s sensors, seemingly out of nowhere. The situation rapidly escalated as the aliens launched a barrage of missiles—dozens of them, all packed with decoys, making it almost impossible to discern the real threat. Despite the best efforts of the UEF’s Anaconda-class freighters to intercept, not a single missile was neutralized.

The first Alexandria-class cruiser, UEF Vanguard, was struck directly by a missile that crippled its engines, leaving it vulnerable. The fleet was forced to make a choice: either fight on or retreat. With the Vanguard slowed to a crawl and no hope of saving the ship, the fleet made the difficult decision to leave her behind.
But the aliens, relentless and calculating, had more firepower in store. Their ships, now clearly superior in both offensive and defensive capabilities, closed in with devastating precision. One by one, UEF vessels were picked apart. The last Alexandria, UEF Resolute, managed to send out a final, fragmented distress signal before the aliens unleashed a devastating beam strike that obliterated her.

In the end, the fleet was decimated, and not a single ship managed to return. The Aerelon Catastrophe marked the largest loss of UEF forces since the beginning of humanity's interstellar endeavors. The loss was compounded by the fact that it was a blind ambush—no one could have anticipated the aliens’ sheer destructive capabilities.

A Memorial for the Fallen

In honor of the 540 crew members who perished in the Aerelon Catastrophe, the UEF established the Resolute Memorial in Denver. A towering structure of black obsidian and etched silver, it bears the names of the fallen alongside an inscription: 
“For those who dared to reach the stars and paid the ultimate price, humanity will forever remember your courage.”

The annual Day of Reflection on September 16th, the anniversary of the battle, encourages all citizens to contemplate the sacrifices made in pursuit of a brighter future.

Strategic Priorities in 2059

The goal was ambitious: construct 1,000 automated mines, though Corundium shortages meant this could not be fully realized. 

Simultaneously, manned mining operations and colonist transfers continued to Mars, establishing the red planet as humanity's primary off-world mining hub. These developments underscored humanity's reliance on minerals for technological and industrial expansion. 

In January, groundbreaking advancements were made in the biological sciences with the complete mapping of the human genome. This achievement enabled a shift in focus toward more efficient mining and shipbuilding methods, critical to conserving dwindling mineral reserves. 

Technological Progress and Military Enhancements 
By early March, research into 12cm railguns concluded, setting the stage for humanity’s energy weaponry to become a viable defense against missile threats. Enhancements to beam fire control range and railgun launch velocity were completed by October, extending the effective range of UEF’s weapons systems to 48,000 kilometers. This technological leap made energy-based point defense systems a promising alternative to traditional kinetics. 

The shipyards were also active. The venerable Idlev 001, humanity's first spaceship, completed its refit to the Idlev II class, enhancing its role in the UEF's growing shipping fleet. A second slipway at the Idlev yard neared completion, with a third following close behind, signaling a commitment to scaling commercial shipping operations. 

Jump Point Stabilization and Its Strategic Implications 
The stabilization of jump points remained a high priority. In February, Farreach’s jump point into Farreach was stabilized on the Sol side, enabling one-way missions into new systems. By June, the stabilization project was completed on both ends, allowing two-way traffic between Farreach and Sol. 

Later in the year, the Abilene, humanity's pioneering jump stabilization platform, was towed to Thengo’s jump point. Stabilization on the Sol side was completed in November, and by March 2060, the Thengo side was stabilized as well. This breakthrough opened a permanent corridor between Sol and Thengo, enabling secure colonization and resource exploitation. 

Building the Thengo Colony 
The Thengo system had been identified in 2057 as humanity's next great frontier, and by 2060, this vision began to materialize. Thengo III’s Moon 5 became the site of the first extrasolar colony. By December 31, 2060, the colony housed 400,000 settlers, supported by infrastructure capable of accommodating 800,000. April 2057: 
Reports from Sansibar raised alarms about the alien civilization's technological capabilities. Evidence of rapid planetary cooling on Sansibar I suggested advanced terraforming technology, adding urgency to humanity’s defensive preparations.

A newly discovered jump point in Farreach revealed the extraordinary Thengo system, which could become the crown jewel of humanity’s interstellar expansion. With ten planets and two remarkable moons orbiting Thengo III, the system offered unparalleled opportunities:

Missiles traveling at 48 km/s destroyed the ship, leaving no survivors. This tragedy was a stark reminder that humanity was not alone—and the galaxy was fraught with danger.

Author's note : When I researched jump stabilizers it bugged and gave me magneto-plasma drives and their corresponding reactor. There is no way that I know of to SM tech back so I had to roll with it.
