Okay, I have played on and off for a few years and just started back. I downloaded and am running 7. 1 right now, and I've run into an issue with the PDC and Hangars. I put in 3000 tons of Hangar Bay (i. e. 3 bays), but when I tried to assign 3 490 Ton Fighters to it, I was told there wasn't sufficient hangar bay available. I also had 102 Flight Crew quarters, so I know there was room there as well. What am I missing?

I hate to be the guy asking this, but here it is: Are there any ships already assigned to the PDC?
F6 menu, select the PDC from the list, then Parasites/Cargo/GU tab. It should say how much hangar capacity is available and what ships are currently docked.

It is a good question. Mainly because I'm personally forgetting if adding fighters to a dropship's hangar in design view makes it so that the design comes with the fighters pre-fabricated too.

It still says there is over half the hangar space available, but if I try to assign another fighter, it won't take it. I have them set to want 6 fighters, but when I pre-fab'd them, none were included in the build. I also found that when the fighters get built, they don't automatically get tasked to fill those orders, so I had to manually assign them to a PDC.

Yeah, you should be able to land six more fighters. The next thing I would attempt is manual assignment and landing. For each fighter on that screen, select it, and assign the PDC as mothership in the top right corner, then select the PDC itself and hit the 'Release' and then the 'Recover' button.
Building a mothership doesn't auto-build the listed parasites. What it does is assign and land parasites as you build them if the mothership's task group is your fighter production target group.

Another issue that has caused me problems is when the fighter has already been assigned to another mother ship and landed there. Then you have to launch the fighter, assign to the correct mother ship and then land it. Also I had problems when I forgot that the mother ship was not in orbit (training) and the fighters could not be assigned as they were built.

Yeah, see that's the problem. I'm building the PDCs then building the fighters and then their first order (manually by me) is to "Land on Specified Mothership (+Assign)" and that worked for the first "wave", but then after that, it started telling me there wasn't enough hangar space. It really doesn't make sense to me. Maybe I just setup something wrong and it's hidden in the background.

Could it be because the PDC design has only 6 fighters listed for the "strike group", not 12 ?
What happens if you change the PDC hanger designation to default to hold 12 fighters and then try landing them in it?
Basically I'm wondering if it thinks it can't load any more Falcons because only 6 Falcons are explicitly listed for the hanger space.
I've noticed that I couldn't load stolen "salvaged" spoiler missiles in a collier until I changed the collier's magazines default loading to the spoiler's missiles (ie not my own)

I thought that too, but I just checked, and the default loadout is set to 6, yet I just landed 6 more there without a problem after reloading for the 4th time. I'm now starting to wonder if the issue was some table error that has since resolved itself?

Well, if it comes back again you might want to consider just downloading a fresh stevefire. mdb in case there's some corruption going on. RIP your saved games, though.
