Title: Science Officer?
Post by: ndkid on April 15, 2020, 02:34:59 PM
I know I've seen other people mention assigning a science officer. I have just built my first ship with a science department, but when I go to commander assignment, nothing shows up in the list when I select "Science Officer" in the dropdown. Is there something else this ship class needs to enable the ability to have a science officer? (This is v1.40.)

Do you have a rank lower than Commander?

At the moment I can get the science officer job to appear, if I select only officers from the lowest rank. it works the same way, that you need to select a name of a particular officer type to get the jobs to appear, but for the science officer, only the lowest ranking officers can have that job (it seems), so it doesn't show if you select higher ranking officers.

Thank you both, what I was missing was that if I happened to have selected an officer that was too _high_ a level for the role, the role wouldn't show up on the list.
(I now wish I knew how Steve used this screen because, for me, it feels far more intuitive for the default to be a complete list of open positions and selecting one filters the list of officers than the default being a complete list of officers with the open positions, which are divided up behind a List Box, getting filtered.)
