Title: Why are we still calling it Aurora C#?
Post by: Bughunter on April 17, 2020, 04:45:50 PM
..and not Aurora 8.

Sure switching the implementation to another language and more modern platform was a big thing. But it is still the next major release of the same game. Some people who never coded and doesn't frequent the forums much probably doesn't even know what C# is.

It's a total rewrite, so it's not the next major release.

Because Aurora 2 dropped over a decade ago :)

Same reason we say "steel beams" or "ice cubes," to specify what it's made out of!

(And I doubt something like Aurora III is ever gonna stick, but if it does.... I was first![1])

Technically it would be C+=2.

Also no windows 9 because 3rd party windows devs where extra lazy with how they did version checking.

Because arguing over whether it's pronounced C hash, C sharp, C number, or even Captcha (?) Aurora is fun.

Though I must remember "C plus plus plus plus"

Because God (Steve) has decided so.

And who are we to doubt God's word?

If by "3rd party windows devs" you mean Microsoft themselves.  Checking for a version string starting with '9' was the official way to detect a DOS-based 32 bit Windows.

Because God (Steve) has decided so.

And who are we to doubt God's word?
Exactly.  That would be heresy.  FOR THE EMPEROR.

Thomas, if I'm remembering correctly.

Because creator of this software (Steve) calls it Aurora C#. If you develop program (game) you will give it a name. When you will have a child and give it a name, everyone who knows him/her will be calling it by name You given to him/her.

Why do we have to call you "Bughunter" at this forum? I think we should call you "How developer dare to name program something else than I want" (and this is sarcasm).

That is of course the one that cannot be argued against :) But I always saw C# as kind of a development project name, like (P) marker, and expected it to drop eventually. But guess it stuck now.
