for beam fleet in target rich enviroment it is damn difficult to assign targets in current engine - especially I have on my sensors everything NPR race have ever produced
now I have to write down by hand what I want to shoot and than go through finding /assigning from a really long list
old system was far more convinient

Having the range to the targets in brackets next to their name in the ship combat list would go a long way to making it easier to make targetting decisions.
