These are what I've been using for my first war ships. Fast, relatively cheap and with okay-ish range, these are designed to operate in three ship squadrons. Two Starshields and one Starlance make up a squadron. These vessels use 1.25x Power Boost tech, 0.8x Fuel Consumption tech, Capacitor 3, 12cm Laser, 12cm High-Power Microwave, Microwave Focusing 2, Electronic Hardening 1, and Railgun Velocity 20,000km. Otherwise these ships use tech available from a fresh TN start. The lasers and HPM use a Capacitor rating of 2, because a Capacitor rating of 3 doesn't actually improve the RoF, but does make the guns more expensive to build & develop. The Electronic Hardening is optional, but considering the Starlance is armed with a 12cm HPM and neither it nor the Starshield furnish shields, it is recommended. You could replace the cheaper sensors and BFCS on the Starshield with Hardened versions, however when I built the Starshield it was intended to work alone as an entry-level "My First Warship" sort of vessel so being low-cost was a very high priority. The Starlance was built to achieve supremacy over the Starshield, but to be built in fewer numbers so low-cost was not as high of a priority.

wait why does it say your pd beam fire control tracking speed is 2500km/s, is that right or am i reading it wrong?

It says 2,500 km/s because it is 2,500 km/s. The PD/AUX is a backup FCS that let's the ship continue combat if the main FCS is knocked out. That's the AUX part, the PD part comes in when the primary FCS is still functional, allowing you to assign the railgun to a separate FCS for PD work. You cannot have a single FCS in both PD Mode and standard mode at the same time, so you need at least two to do both at once. It's not a very good Point Defense FCS, but it's a helluva lot better than nothing.
The PD/AUX is a hybrid, and should be treated as such.
