3 Month Deployment on the Lewis, is that intended?
-
Yeah, it's quite low. This is ship is just for poking around one JP away from the Solar System and isn't kitted to do more than that really. You could modify it to do that though, most of those Active Sensor could be reduced from 50 Tons to 20 Tons. The Passives are also huge, and could be reduced from 100 Tons down to 50 Tons or 20. Both changes would free up a lot of crew and mass for more range, both in terms of fuel and deployment. The shields are 700 Tons and not strictly needed, so you could remove them, hell you could even strip out the weapons too, plenty of space to be had. Go nuts, I love to be an inspiration and encourage extrapolation. :)
It's follows one of my core RP tenants, which is that technology needs to be tested and proven in the field before advancements can be researched. So the Lewis and it's little survey boats serve as test beds for new technology as much as anything else. The Lewis in particular is built to test new shield tech, our empire's very first jump drive ever, and to further the development of second generation sensor technologies. The Clark and the Pocahontas are both carrying the very first survey sensors ever. As far as my empire is concerned, these sensors might not even work as intended. The Jump Drive might not work at all, it might even go horribly wrong, same as the shields. The hardening on these new sensors is only just reaching maturity, with these models being the first to be designed in light of field test.
So, all of that results in a ship that is... well, frankly just packed to the gills with stuff. Hence, deployment time got the axe. Fuel might be misleading, as it also carries enough to refuel it's parasites + 10 hours of "emergency power" for any of the close-call navigational oopsies I tend to make so often.

ho I like this. I've always tried to design FTR sized survey boats but couldn't quite get them to have an effective range of ~10 AU(and covering that distance in < 2 months) using "nouveau TN" tech. Bonus points for the JD equipped mum that I think could be stripped down to <10ktons? with even more range but less teeth. I'd like to rip your designs but for the love of me I can't figure out the actual specs of the important stuff like the engines, cushy seats etc.

This design is very similar to what I do ... The names are different, but the engine manufacturer is the same)))
