Title: 1.8.0 How to attach waypoints to a planet
Post by: Narhalles on April 24, 2020, 10:08:31 PM
Im trying to "attach" a ring of way points around a planet that will move with the planet as it moves, but everything I can think to try just causes the way points to stay stationary relative to the star and not the planet.  Is this intended behavior, am I missing something obvious, not yet implemented feature, or a bug?

I don't recall being able to do that in VB Aurora either, so it looks like intended behaviour.

Forgive me, what are you trying to achieve?

correct, but also not true. It really depends on what u need to do.

I believe that you can only set up relative waypoints like that directly on top of a body, by clicking on it first.

Im trying to build a sensor buoy ring around a planet about 120 mkm out from it.

You can't.  The only waypoints you can set that move with a body are directly on top of them.

There is the the orbit mechanic, just not sure if viable, should test. You cannot use buoy though you'll have to sort through orbital stations.

Im trying to build a sensor buoy ring around a planet about 120 mkm out from it.

Maybe this is possible by setting up escorts?
Create one fleet with orders to move to the planet, minimum distance 1 km.
Add your buoys to this fleet as escorts, with distance 120mkm and bearing suitably distributed in a circle.

Are escorts implemented in C# right now?

They are not.  But they are on the list.
