Title: Delete unit from formation?

Is it possible to delete a unit from a formation after the formation has been trained? I have discovered that I miscalculated the number of units I wanted by one so now I am in a situation where I will not be able fully maximize the use of my command headquarters capacity without disbanding and rebuilding the entire HQ formation. I'd rather not have to do that if possible.

You can (effectively) do this. Go to Ground Forces, Order of Battle Tab. Check the Show Elements and Amount Popup boxes. Move the unwanted elements to another formation. This can be a reserve formation or even one you plan to delete. If you don't have such a formation, just build a new empty formation.
