Title: Refit of Fighters?
Post by: TMaekler on May 05, 2020, 03:32:59 PM
I thought I remembered that fighters could be refitted now. But they either can't or I don't find how.

Anyone?

They should be, yes. Haven't tried it myself yet but that's' what Steve wrote in the changes list.

They can be refitted in shipyards now. Use the "Auto Refit" option if you have a lot of fighters and want to stay sane.

I believe you would have to have a shipyard tooled for the target design (or tooled for another design within the 20% refit range of the target design).

Yes, that is most likely correct from what I see in my game. I can retool naval shipyard to produce my fighter design, but none can refit it directly, so 20% rule seems to apply.

So, I have a shipyard now which is tooled for the new fighter class. I can scrap the old ones in it, but if I want to refit, the old class isn't shown. Any ideas, why? If I set the class to obsolete or not doesn't change it. It isn't shown in either case.

Ship sizes are 48t for the old one and 34t for the new, and the shipyard has 500t and 2 slipways. So should fit ;-)

Those two designs are most likely too different to allow refit. There is the 20% refit range of the target design rule that would apply in this situation.

Never heard of that rule before. Where can I find a posting about it?

I believe this post from Steve explains it: http://aurora2.pentarch.org/index.php?topic=8495.msg117467#msg117467

34 is more than 20% different from 48.

Did you see this (http://aurora2.pentarch.org/index.php?topic=11330.msg131822#msg131822)?

To wit:

Quote
You can refit from ship A to ship B as long as B is within 20% of the size of ship A.

There is no such rule for refitting. Refitting is only restricted by size.

Co-building at a single yard is restricted by refit cost being within 20% of the yard's tooled class.

So the refit could't take place because of the size difference. Thanks.

Those are some tiny ass fighters - what do you have on those? Are they just a minimum size engine with a single support pod?

Yes, basically an engine and a pod for ground support. Not battle tested yet...
