Title: Unusual character traits
Post by: liveware on May 14, 2020, 11:30:25 AM
I recently had the RNG spit out a character with the following two traits:

Optimistic
Pessimistic

I laughed. Anyone else come across any usual character trait combinations?

I run in various and very unuiqe ones too. Now can't remember, I should look again. But I wonder do traits have impacts on the gameplay actually or are they just flavor text which is not bad either?

I remember a snicker at:

Objective
Subjective
Psychological problems

PS: and the traits are purely for flavour so far unless I have missed a surprising devlog/changes post

Not a trait per se, but I recently had a scientist named Gilian Island  8)

Code: [Select]
Disobedient
Follows orders without question

So, a passive-aggressive sycophant?

Sounds Bipolar to me.

I don't have such crazy combos like people mentioned here but some made me smile:

Follows orders without questions + complacent (ideal soldier!)
Combative + Tough + Martial Artist (watch out for him)
Rude + Tough + Will not listen to advice + Arrogant  and in a similar style:  Narcissistic + Rude + Will not listen to advice
Religious + Humble + Talented musician + Philosophy Buff
Superstitious + Suspicious + Easily Confused
Arrogant + Lazy + Malicious (......)
Easily Confused + Paranoid + Gloomy (poor fellow)

As you can see I do not have some illogical combination and rather ones that go very well together (I guess Steve must have spent more than on this than I ever thought). Surely, there must be a VERY GOOD algorithm that manages to put such interesting traits together. I only checked about 150 of my Naval officers though so there might be someone impossibly built.

Also, my favourite is Lt.CDR Mohammed Shahriar,a C.O. of my FT Venice. I did not design anything about him but seeing that he is Innovative, Problem-solver, from a Poor Family and Wealthy I can see him being a great character to write some story about, albeit a bit cliché :)

I like "religious(ly) atheist". It even makes sense if you want to believe something fervently, but are too impatient to wait for miracles.

I built more academies than I need, to get the RP "faction" system in my 1.9 universe rolling and because I like to (over)use the new C&C options until I have an intuitive grasp on where I want those in the future. 41 years in from a conventional, if fairly populous start, there are nine academies in four locations, that makes for some RNG variety, many trait combinations that tell a story, but also quite a few odd ones. (My unfounded guess from Aurora observation and my own limited, very rusty hobby programming experience: that the algorithm is good, but not quite as complex. Simply put mutually exclusive traits into groups, and make sure that the RNG never picks more than one trait from any group. The "bipolar" C# examples make me surmise that Steve has created a new list of traits, but without updating the exclusive groups. If the trait list is compiled carefully, the rest would be delivered just by our imagination and selective memory.)

Recently, Aurora handed me a new governor. I haven't determined yet where the dishonesty comes into play:

In all honesty I like the quirky personality traits. Adds some character to the characters.
