Title: First Warships in C#
Post by: Barkhorn on July 27, 2020, 12:56:57 AM
These are my first warships in my first real campaign in C#.  They're going to work in squadrons of 4, 3 Clemsons and 1 Mahan.  I plan on including a tanker/supply ship for longer deployments.  Does this seem reasonable?

Looks alright.

Might drop one of the B-FCS for the turrets, potentially split the engines into two different engines. Unless you're role-playing, the Electronic Hardening only works vs. Microwave weapons, so you can probably do without it.

Deployment is really high, and your MSP isn't great considering that beam weapons now eat MSP. The IFR is definitely sensible, too many folks underbuid their Engineering Spaces. I'd try slashing about 3 months of deployment and shoving some Maintenace Storage Bays in, and you should be golden.

Hi,

I would change the following:

Edit: I missed the Railgun

I am not a big fan of single engine ships. If you lose the engine you are completely immobile that is problem especially for beam combatant. It also means that your big engine is expensive to repair. Your MSP supply barely cover the cost of the repair for the engine - 504MSP from the supply of 615 and 562 in case of Mahan. In beam combat you will need MSP to repair your weapons and you will not be able to replace them from supply ship during combat.

Other than that I would maybe consider switching reactor for several smaller ones - same reasoning as for the engine. If you loose your one reactor you will not be able to fire at all.

To Kelewan - reactor is for railguns not gauss.

Edit: You have cryo on Mahan, presumably to rescure survivors? I would use smaller one, maybe two Emergency Cryos? You can use the freed space for engineering. Or equip your supply ship with cryo and drop it on Mahan completely, if your supply ships will be close behind the destroyers they can wait until combat is over to pick them up.

As for the deployement, I would keep 12 months. For me, that is the minimum for combat ship. You may need to guard JP or protect mining operation. I think 12 months is minimum to do things like that.

I have to agree with what others said.

The two problems are MSP and the single engine. Definitely use at least two engines, both so you're not dead in the water if one breaks and to spend less MSP if one breaks and has to be repaired.

As for MSP, every time a beam weapon shoots you have 1% chance the weapon will "break" and require to be repaired with MSP. For beam weapon combat, unless you plan to win every single engagement with alpha strike, you need a buffer of MSP. The longer you plan to fight, the more you should have.
I'd double the ones you have at the moment.
