For future reference - A hypothetical update 1.12.1 means that it is save compatible with 1.12.
1.13, 1.11, 1.14 etc. are examples of save incompatible updates. So updates after the second periods are less updates and more patches that don't break saves.

x.yy.zz is Steve's format.
x = major release version. Substantial game changes.
yy = database changes. No save compatibility. :(
zz = executable changes. Save games are compatible. These are usually minor fixes.

Yea its actually a pretty good version numbering scheme, it makes actual logical sense
