Title: Anti-Missiles being wonky
Post by: Pixel1191 on February 05, 2021, 06:29:25 AM
I've just gotten my combat ships into their first engagement and have run into a bit of a snag.

My fleet consists of ships with point defense energy weapons, as well as a few dedicated anti-missile escorts.

I'm currently getting pelted with missiles (size 5) for the first time. The energy PD is doing alright, but I keep getting leakers that punch through and hit. My problem is: my escorts with AMMs are not firing at the incoming salvoes, at all, unless I manually target them, no matter the range.

I looked everything over again and no glaring issue jumped out at me...so I'm ready to defer, maybe someone else can spot what's wrong here.

Some Data on it all...

The Sensor/FC/Missile Setup of the ship:

The fire control:

And the combat setup:

Can anyone spot what's wrong? I've played a bunch of VB6, a while ago, but it's the first time I've gotten into combat in C# and I can't see it.

Energy PD will fire automatically on enemy missiles without being told to open fire.
The same cannot be said for AMMs, you need to explicitly tell them to open fire (the FC should turn orange)

Yes... you need to tell it to open fire... the reason for this is so you don't fire missiles when you don't need to and waste ammunition that way.

Okay, so...this is embarrassing...   ::)

Droll gave me the hint I needed: it helps when you declare the Aliens hostile. The Energy PD still intercepted them, even marked as neutral salvoes, the AMMs didn't.

After that quick change, the Escorts went to work immediately.

They did, also, open fire in PD mode all by themselves, no need to open fire manually.

Yeah, you don't need to order them to fire, that was in previous versions. On the other hand, they continue to fire even when there is no ammo, quickly consuming all MSPs (this will be fixed in next version).
