Title: How to transfer ships between races
Post by: IronRagnar on April 26, 2021, 04:30:58 AM
I can't for the life of me figure out if this feature is missing or I just can't find it.  In VB6 it was possible to transfer ships between races, is this a feature in C#? Is there a workaround?

It is missing. The only way is to temper with the database and an SQL reader

That's a shame.  It was quite useful for multiple player races.

I don't why I didn't think of boarding.  Thank you.  I was considering maybe somehow working with abandoning ship but it seems to be more cubersome.

Abandoning a ship just explodes it, and boarding is plenty cumbersome:

The only way to "trade" ships is by boarding them. SM in a boarding ship, SM in a boarding party, load it, move the ship to wherever it needs to be, set the target ships speed to 1 so your boarders don't all die, board the ship, click until the crew is dead, and voila! You now have a ship that traded hands from one empire to another. It still has a hole in it's armor and a 1-month abandon-overhaul modifier tho.

I guess you have a Klingon way of trading while I am more of a Ferengi...

Ahaahahha

But actually that is probably better than spending lots of time on the DB with always risking of compromising the save.

There is another way to trade ships , create a temporary empty colony place the ships in orbit around it and then have the recieving race conquer the colony all ships then surrender. Unfortunatly you will probably also get technology transfer

I will have to check out the colony way.  The wording in settings says that tech will be transferred "proportionate to the to the percentage of total race population represented by that conquered population".  So there is a good chance it will be minimal.

I did this for a highy advanced race passing down to a lower tech race. I had the option for tech transfer turned off but that did not prevent tech transfer
23 technologies were transferred in an inconsistant pattern for instance capacitor recharge rate 3,4.5, and5 were transferred and source race had 6 and I thinl the reciever already had 3 , they go 12 and 30 cm lasers as well but nothing inbetween

edit It also looks like I can build the captured ships despite their individual components being beyond the capturing race

I think in 1. 14 tech transfer should be fixed.  So as not to transfer when turned off in settings.
