Title: Your best / bad ass ship name
Post by: Norm49 on May 03, 2021, 12:55:01 AM
Hi,

I recently look at youtube video talking about some ship name in Halo. I make me realize the ship name in this universe had something special. I do name my ship in aurora. Now i am curious about what name you give to you ship.  What are you best of more bad ship name?

My old one, not bad ass but I like them.

GE 001 Gargarine (Last name of the fist men in space)
GE 002 Yuri (Fist name of the fist men in space)
GE 003 A small steep (Reference to"It is a small steep for men but a giant steep for humanity")

GV 001 Hamstrog (Last name of the fist men on the moon)
GV 002 Neil (Fist name of the fist men on the moon)

Fist bad ass name I found for my next ship. They not build yet.

CV 001 Hunt me down (Invite for a fight because, it doesn't care, it know it is ready for it)
CL 001 All ways rise
CL 002 Never fall
BB 001 Beyond fires of eternity (Nice but long)

Once I have the capacity to build city sized juggernauts I`m going to name the first two Eternal Silence and Final Judgment.

my jump-GSV class is the Dawn Treader.

my Auxiliary Battlecruisers are the Fighting Uruk-hai, which convert from Elf-class freighters.

my Auxiliary Death Star (circumstances only ever converged once, but it was glorious) is Grolantor; the freighter it converts from is Nosnra.

...

my sense of "badass" probably wants recalibration

Out of all the ship names I've made up in my AAR campaign, Cry, Ye Wicked is still my personal favorite just for the whole Judgment-Day-trumpets-sound feeling it evokes.

I'm also partial to Denouement and Defenestrator. I've also named a survey frigate Aeryn Sun which is by default the most badass name I've yet assigned to any vessel (perhaps a bit wasted on a survey ship, but the A-series names were assigned to the survey class long before I thought of this).

I'm naming fighters after norse mythology, so right now I got the:
Walküre Interceptor
Nidhogg Tactical Bomber
Sleipnir Fighter

and I'm working on the 3rd generation of the Walküre; the
Walküre Doppelsöldner Interceptor

"What was that about our mothers?" - Last transmission of an alien warship before being exploded by the Samuel L Jackson.

I have had a few that got a random name and then lived up to them. :)

Rabid class Fast Attack Craft (no individual names, just numbers) These were FAC's armed with particle beams. They did yeoman's service a couple of games back as warp point defenders.

Napalm class light cruisers (Napalm, Flamethrower, Firestorm, Flamebringer, Hellburner, Inferno) all served with distinction. All laser armed (lots and lots of lasers) I used these in my last game as offense/defense light cruisers. They did really well with massed laser fire against enemy ships. Did ok, but not great, as anti-missile ships.

Indomitable class Area Defense Crusisers (Indomitable, Resolute, Invincible, Unyielding) These cruisers were dedicated anti-missile/anti-fighter platforms. Invincible lived up to her name by taking 73 hits from AAMs in a fight and kept on fighting. These were big ships with tons of armor and shields. They had a lot of AAM's and a few lasers. They were usually the biggest ships in a fleet and they got shot at a lot.

A few games back I had a battleship that lived up to its name. The Iron Duke was one of my few battleships and it earned a heck of a reputation. It took a battering several times but killed a ton of enemy ships.

I stick with the Galactic Empire naming conventions for ships. Class names vary.

But i like some of my ships named Dominator and Slaughter.

Most badass name ?
Long time ago, in VB6 times where i had time to sit through looong ass turns.
Five ships in a Imperial style playthrough - Demon class Titans called HMS Leviathan, Behemoth, Rakshasa, Odin and Zeus.
1.5mil ton each, full of weapons, 50 layers of armour, enough fuel to travel across the galaxy, several fleet carriers worth of fighters, drop pods - all the shebang. I could practically hear the aliens weeping whenever this beast jumped into their systems with all their escorts and scouts.

It was glorious.

I always ramp up initial tech and go building two 60k ton carriers named Centurion and Hyperion. They usually operate independently with their own supporting fleets, but once one of them get their ass kicked I send the other sister ship for some sweet sweet revenge, hehe.

I've had plans for some time for the Legitimacy class of flagships, called the Ultima Ratio, Divine Right, Popular Will, National Interest and Permanent Revolution.

But never have gotten around to having big enough off-homeworld fleet stations that I actually need a dedicated flagship class.

I love it!

Don't forget the Eminent Domain, Common Good, and Manifest Destiny.

If I have an empire with a melodramatic bent, you'll end up with the super-dreadnought Armageddon, escorted by four battleships of the Four Horsemen squadron.

Sister super dreadnoughts are the Ragnarok, Dies Irae, and Apocalypse

And of course there's the classic standby for a super-dreadnought:

Sic Transit

My tankers tend to be of the Exxon Valdez class.
It started in a game where most of earths history was lost, but some standout names survived in the archives. So the only tanker name these people knew was Exxon Valdez. And they wanted to return the good old days ...

Burning Bright is a name I have used a few times on various beam craft. On one occasion UNS Burning Bright and her sister ship UNS Burning Fist demonstrated the effectiveness of spinal lasers to an excessively curious NPR.

...the effectiveness of spinal lasers...

This would be a fine ship name.
If only we could make it shorter.
Maybe there is a German word that means the same thing?

In my post apocalyptic game where terran culture stopped after the 90's I named my Cruisers after fictional heroes. I quite liked the SDF John Matrix and the SDF Snake Pilsken. My destroyers where all metal band names, stuff like SDF Savatage and SDF Motorhead.

Still my best naming scheme to date, I was excited every time I got to name a newly built ship heh.

You just remember me a fight i had against a ship call Iron Maiden in a other game.

I found other name for exploration ship.
Isaac Isimov
Arthur C. Clark
(or Arthur Charles Clark)

Fun fact in dead space the main character Isaac Clark is the combination of those 2 names.

 - Just thought of one. I sometimes have Geosurvey Vessels called the "Rockstar" class. I always thought those were rather cleverly named.

I am not one to name specific ships or classes anything badass or non-descriptive, so it will be a tie between the Itettsu (named for "headstrong", Tyrell Badd's japanese given name), the first of my intel gathering furtive ships (didn't get to do much more than blow some swarm out of the sky), and the Legislacerator-class Diplomatic ships, which optionally had a bunch of box launcher fighters on them. I am not very good at this.

SDF Snake Pilsken.

I'd heard that ship had been destroyed :)
