Luyten's Star

Dear Kyle,
All in all, #### can't get worse on this radiated hell. Don't join the Army if you're considering service. Likely be set to Luyten's ####### Star. Troops around here call the place Luyten's Hell or more humorously Luyten's ###. Don't know where the last part came from, but our superior's don't like it. I'm lucky to be alive, I think. I suppose Providence had some involvement, who knows. Our division was ordered to assault the enemy positions. Tough mother####### those 'Rakhas' are. Shoot 'em up with a full battery pack; they're still standing. After a few hours of shooting flashlights, Rikugun-Shōshō Nonomura Mik called for a general fall back to the defensive lines. The whole ordeal felt closer to a retreat than a tactical withdrawal.
We lost a lot of good troops today...
I hope everything is going well for you and your family back on Earth. Tell Abby I'll get her some souvenir after our deployment.

Luyten's Star

Imperial forces arrived on Luyten's Star seven years ago. The first attack was repelled by the Rakhas horde within two days. No one survived. The admiralty and the rest of High Command gave the brave soldiers a speech about their 'noble' sacrifice to the Empire. The soldiers must have been felt like the speech was their funeral oration. This assault seems more promising as the 1st, 2nd and 5th Armored Regiments have made breakthrough of the Rakhas line. 1st Armored Regiment pushed through the northern sector and after three hours of intense combat saw an opportunity to continue an advance. The commanding officer, Rikugun-Chūsa Tono Mio, was granted permission to continue the assault since the divisional commander was killed yesterday. Unfortunately for the Rakhas, the Cobra-2 Main Battle Tank was designed to penetrate heavy armor with its twin-linked autocannons. Meanwhile, the Rakhas infantry was swept up by the Anaconda IFVs (armed with high caliber anti-personnel weapons) which gave the tank crews breathing room. Overhead, A9C Ground Support Fighters were laying suppressive close air supports. Lost only two of them so far, for once the Navy is helping the Army.
Right now, the 1st Armored Regiment is waiting a few more hours before the next push... I write this memoir to let you know: Luyten's Star is not yet lost.

Donner 91

The ringing in my ears. It's all I remember vividly of the Donner engagement. When we returned to Sol in defeat, the Emperor said the defeat brought dishonor to the commanders. It's not like it mattered, the 3rd Fleet lost two Ise Destroyers and a Huyuzuki Missile Destroyer. In response, we destroyed one Precursor vessel. The vessel did not fire back. I wonder if Imperial Intelligence has some plan or that the Research Bureau will cook up some innovation to defeat the Precursors.
Why did we even go to Donner? Nothing is even there.

Daily log - day number three-hundred.
The Emperor gave my team at the Overwatch Project more than enough funding and equipment to continue research. Several new organs and hormonal chemicals were created to augment combat troops. When the time comes, our Transhuman ambitions will be realized. The first batch of test subjects show intense need for maintenance. A yearly procedure and operation is estimated to keep the subjects from stroke by chemical imbalance. They're expensive to maintain, but they'll be effective. They possess enhanced reflexes, sight, and hale beyond measure. Our research isn't complete, the "Dosojin" chemical is the beginning of more to come. They are equipped with new weapons such as the Type-42 Lasrifle and new armor plating, even the toughest Rakhas would be no match for a Overwatch soldier.

Foreign Affairs
The Nihon Empire has made temporary friendship with an alien empire known as the Kingdom of Binja. In simulated save scummed wargames testing the capability of the Binja, the IJN has too few armaments and vessels to fight an effective space war. Rakhas have been detected in the furthest reaches of known space, they are on the conquest list. The Donner 91 Precursors (reflavored as Necrons) still exist and have defeated or destroyed every expeditionary fleet into the system.
Technology
As of 2144, the Nihonese Empire researched Inertial Fusion Drives but have yet to design ships with the new technology.
Ship Designs of the IJN
The Kasagi is a replacement warship of the Azuma. She is designed act as a ship of the line with point defense capability. The IJN developed two kinds of warships, missile and beam. Beam ships were seen as ineffective in ship to ship combat but provided sufficient point defense against missiles. In simulations against the Kingdom of Binja, it was theorized that the beam warships would be more effective than the missile warships as the Binja Navy does not use missiles.

The Ryujo class was created to accommodate for new standardized warship speed of 10,000 km/s. Previous carriers had only gone 8,000 km/s, but this speed was unable to keep up with enemy and even IJN vessels. The Ryujo class came about the same time as the A9D class Bomber. She has limited point defense weapons, as previous encounters with Precursors proved that ships without point defense were very vulnerable.

Overwatch 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Regiments performed planetary assault after preliminary orbital bombardment from IJN warships. No Overwatch casualties within first eight hours of fighting. Rakhas casualties estimated one-hundred and fifty dead. Imperial Intelligence suggests 4,000+ hostile Rakhas planetary forces. Overwatch commanders are supplied with anti-fatigue rations to increase tactical and strategic persistence. Combat units underwent Tengu augmentation surgery prior to invasion, reducing the strain of sustained warfare. Memory psychoengineering completed.
