I can figure out most of the acronyms and short-names for describing ships and their components but there are still some that I just can't wrap my head around.
I was wondering if there was a list somewhere on the forums? I had a cursory look but didn't notice any threads that would contain the info.
As an example, this is from the Ship Design forum:
Ironsides class Gunboat 1000 tons 114 Crew 141 BP TCS 20 TH 120 EM 30
6000 km/s Armour 1-8 Shields 1-200 Sensors 1/1/0/0 Damage Control Rating 2 PPV 4
Annual Failure Rate: 4% IFR: 0.1% Maintenance Capacity 176 MSP Max Repair 30 MSP
GB Ion Engine E100 (1) Power 120 Efficiency 10.00 Signature 120 Armour 0 Exp 15%
Fuel Capacity 100,000 Litres Range 18.0 billion km (34 days at full power)
Alpha R200/10 Shields (1) Total Fuel Cost 10 Litres per day
12cm C2 Visible Light Laser (1) Range 32,000km TS: 6000 km/s Power 4-2 RM 2 ROF 10 4 4 2 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
Fire Control S01 16-2400 (1) Max Range: 32,000 km TS: 2400 km/s 69 37 6 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
Stellarator Fusion Reactor Technology PB-1 AR-0 (1) Total Power Output 6 Armour 0 Exp 5%
I'll go through it and say what I think each entry is and if somebody could correct me that would be great.
BP - 20 [haven't the foggiest what this is!]
TCS [Tactical Scan?] - 20 [HS? which is 1000 Tons?] [is this the minimum resolution scanner that can detect this ship?]
TH [Thermal Scan?] - 120 [HS? which is 600 Tons?] [is this the minimum resolution scanner that can detect this ship?]
EM [Electromagnetic Scan?] - 30 [HS? which is 150 Tons?] [something to do with the Tactical Scanner?]
Armour - 1-8 [level 1 armour with a rating of 8? If so, what is that rating of 8 used against?]
Shields - 1-200 [level 1 shields with a rating of 200? If so, what is that rating of 200 used against?]
Sensors - 1/1/0/0 [Thermal/Active/Geo??/Grav??]
PPV - 4 [haven't the foggiest what this is!]
IFR - 0.1% [haven't the foggiest what this is!]
Maintenance Capacity - 176 MSP [The number of maintenance points? What exactly is MSP short for?]
And then there is this line for the laser:
12cm C2 Visible Light Laser (1) Range 32,000km TS: 6000 km/s Power 4-2 RM 2 ROF 10 4 4 2 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
How does the 'power', 'RM' and all this digits after the ROF "translate" into English? how would you say it in plain English.
i.e. "The Ironsides Class Gunboat has a a single 12cm Laser with a Visible Light lens that can range to 32 thousand kilometers and has a tracking speed of 6 thousand kilometers per second. It can fire a [power 4-2] shot once every 10 seconds. ....."
Does my question make sense?

BP - 20 [haven't the foggiest what this is!]
Build Points. The number of shipyard points needed to build the ship.TCS [Tactical Scan?] - 20 [HS? which is 1000 Tons?] [is this the minimum resolution scanner that can detect this ship?]
T(something, Tactical I think) Cross section. How "big" of a target the ship is. TH [Thermal Scan?] - 120 [HS? which is 600 Tons?] [is this the minimum resolution scanner that can detect this ship?]
Thermal ship size. How big of a thermal target the ship is.EM [Electromagnetic Scan?] - 30 [HS? which is 150 Tons?] [something to do with the Tactical Scanner?]
EM ship size. How big of an electromagnetic target the ship isArmour - 1-8 [level 1 armour with a rating of 8? If so, what is that rating of 8 used against?]
1 layer of armor 8 boxes long. 2-10 would be 2 layers 10 boxes long.Shields - 1-200 [level 1 shields with a rating of 200? If so, what is that rating of 200 used against?]
1 level of shields taking 200 seconds to recharge.Sensors - 1/1/0/0 [Thermal/Active/Geo??/Grav??]
Thermal/EM/Geo/Grav. I think. The first two might be swapped as well as the last two.PPV - 4 [haven't the foggiest what this is!]
Protection Point Value. How much "protection" the ship provides to a population.IFR - 0.1% [haven't the foggiest what this is!]
I believe "Individual failure rate". The chance of an individual component failing.Maintenance Capacity - 176 MSP [The number of maintenance points? What exactly is MSP short for?]
Maintenance Supply Points.
And then there is this line for the laser:
12cm C2 Visible Light Laser (1) Range 32,000km TS: 6000 km/s Power 4-2 RM 2 ROF 10 4 4 2 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
How does the 'power', 'RM' and all this digits after the ROF "translate" into English? ;) ). RM = Range Modifier. This I (or someone) would need to look up in the Mechanics forum. The numbers after the ROF are the damage done per range band. Those would be defined on the F5 ship display. I believe the default is 1000km bands. So, in other words, if you were describing the stats for this ship to a layman how would you say it in plain English.
I believe that the range given is also the "50%" range. Past 32,000 km (in this case), the laser is at 50% or less to hit.
