As you can see from the design, one MFC has a range of 37.5m km, and the other has 4.3m km, enough for the missles they
control. But if you look at the pic with the ranges for the MFCs displayed, you can see they are FAR less than what the design
says they are. This is the problem that hit me during the Precursor fight, but now there is no ECM, yet the ranges still show as
far less than the missles they control. Any ideas why this would be? I've tried other ranged MFC and LFC and all show ranges much
less than they are rated for.

I have found the problem. The missile fire controls are being displayed as if they were beam fire controls. I am just amazed no one, including myself, has noticed it before. I assume it must have been introduced during v4.1, although I don't remember changing this part of the code. Anyway, it is just a display problem. The fire controls will function at their normal range.
Aha! I also just noticed that switching active sensors on will also display the missile fire controls at their normal range, which is why this was not spotted before.

I noticed you are also showing a beam fire control system on that screenshot. Is that the right ship for the screenshot? If it is, then there could be another problem

That TF has two ships. The missle ranges are the Vengeance class ship and the beam ranges are for the Revenge class ship. Beam ranges seem to be
fine from what I can see. The missle ranges aren't. In the combat against the Precursor, the missles would not fire until the enemy ship entered the
reduced range circle. This is from version 4.0 beta.

Steve, here's a pic from Earth orbit showing missle ranges of the ships in orbit, and targeting ranges. All ships and PDCs have sensors and targeting
systems that equal or exceed the missle range, yet, as you can see be the barely visible green circles, they are barely exceed beam range, thus wasting
the enormous range advantage of the missles. As I mentioned, I have tried various ranges and all are affected in this manner, though BFC seems ok.

As far as I can tell, it is just a display problem. Try turning off fire control display (which isn't working properly for missile fire control) and switching on active sensors and see what is displayed. It should display the correct ranges for your missile fire control systems.

I hadn't noticed this before but a quick bit of experimentation managed to repeat the effect. I then did as Steve suggested and everything worked fine. I got good hits with missiles at 200m km range, so I agree it's just a display problem.

Went into a battle, and did as Steve suggested. You're right. Missle fired at their appropriate ranges. Definitely a display problem.
Thanks for the help, and my crews thank you.

BTW, salvaging two of the alien wrecks had research projects added, according to the event log, but checking the research sections found no sign of
the two precursor research projects.

I had the same thing with the Precurser wrecks I salvaged. But noticed a turn or two later that those projects were available as systems for my ships. Check your ship construction and see if any new ship systems show up with a precurser label at the end of there name.
