I originally heard of this game in a thread at Dwarf Fortress forum, bay12games.com.
The thread about Aurora there, in the "other games" section, which has more than 200 pages, calls Aurora "The Dwarf Fortress of 4X games".
There seems to be quite a crossover between playerbases for the two games, judging to the lenght of that thread.
Therefore, I would like to suggest a new commander theme: "Dwarf Fortress"
Naval ranks:
King
Duke
Count
Baron
Mayor
Captain of the Guard
Militia Commander
Militia Captain
Fortress Guard
Soldier
Recruit
Soapmaker
Army ranks:
Legendary
Grand Master
High Master
Master
Professional
Adept
Novice
Peasant
As for unit name Theme, I suppose it's possible to have DF's Random Name generator churn out a couple of thousands of dwarven names if required.

It's kind of hard to justify those as naval and army ranks, IMHO. And you've got the wrong number of army ranks, at least; probably naval ranks, too. And even the lowest-ranking officer is moderately high up there, in the big scheme of things; things like soapmaker and probably even adept don't really belong on the list.
Implementation aside, however, a DF theme is an excellent idea and I wholly endorse it.

If you want me to add a new Theme to the database you will need to send me three text files. One with a list of system names, one with a list of class names and one with a list of rank names. Each file should have one name per line.

Erm, shouldn't that be 6 text files?
- system names
- class names
- naval ranks
- army ranks
- first names
- last names
Right. I'll get working on the system and class names for starters, and await your reply for the rest.
Any indication as to how many names per list are needed (for the ranks) or recommended (for the rest)?

update: I have 7 text files for you.
Systems: stone/mineral names
Classes: gem names or creature names (2 files)
I made 2 lists containing enough variety of first and last names (I think). I did not use any special characters (áâõú etc.), as I'm not sure if Aurora supports them.
I reduced the # of naval ranks to 7, and army ranks to 4, as per Aurora's default.
Now, where can I send them to?

There are Racial Themes, which use system names, class names and rank names, and also Commander Themes, which usually use Male First Names, Female First Names and Surnames but are customisable to use different name setups as well. Racial Themes and Commander Themes can be used independently of each other. You can send themes to my email, which is stevewalmsley at btinternet.com

I just learned that apostrophes in names can cause buggy behaviour with Aurora.
So I went over the textfiles I sent you once more, and found 1 apostrophe.
In DF_Classes_gem.txt: Cat's Eye
So I guess that needs to go out.
That's the only apostrophe luckily.

I like.

I'm so happy to see that we're going to have (already have? I haven't played since 5.1) a Dwarf Fortress theme! I always play with the Norse names and the Fantasy Ship classes because that was as close as I could get. Although generally I made my own classes that were a little more common to DF: Rhesus, Macaque, Ocelot, Skeletal Whale...

Can't forget the Carp, but you must reserve that for only the most dreaded of warships.

Renaming Civilian Administrators to Mayors and Scientists to !!SCIENTISTS!! would be cool as well.
