Well my carriers is packing 122 of these, newer been used :'( They are meant to go upclose with the enemy, some will bee killed but with 25 missiles each, doing 6 points of damage, I presume that most enemy ship will bee killed... Only problem is to get the fighters enough missiles >:( ;D

I use fighters that look scarily similar to Steves from his NATO vs Soviet Union Campaign AAR (http://aurora2.pentarch.org/index.php/topic,2486.0.html).
I generally have Strikefighters, Strikefighter Command Fighters (providing strikefighter sensor coverage), Recon (jump drive equipped), Early warning craft (extending the fleets sensor coverage) and Tankers to extend the Strikefighter range. I have 1 Command and 11 fighters per squadron (my smallest carrier carries two squadrons), at least 1 EW and Recon per carrier, and the tankers are only found on my bigger carriers.
I've never used the small missile approach, I figure they are going to get in close and so why not pack a heavier punch and hence using size 4 missiles. Using size 4 is also the standard size of missile used by my cruisers and everything below - this helps on the logistics of resupply. The idea that fighters can use Anti-missile Missiles on their size 1 rails to supplement missile defence has just never appealed to me, the fighters are my fleets offensive arm, so they should be out there, offending.
I'm not very experienced in Aurora (having only played 1 proper game as it were), but these guys did alright:

This baby can fire 4 size 10s with a range of 78 million km. And my Harrington class CVs carry 20 of these. ^_-

I also have a similar strike group as Steve in his Soviet AAR:
One fleet carrier holds:
48x 250 ton fighters with 4x4 size missiles, organized into 4 squadrons.
4x 250 ton fire control fighters, implemented into the 4 squadrons
3x 800 ton recon FAC, which has much more sensor range and endurance than a fighter would have, and importantly with the same speed as the strike fighters. Recon is most essential so I thought I build that baby.
